What to look for-2011 F150 Super Crew Lariat 4x4
 

I'm looking at a 2011 F150 Super Crew Lariat 4x4 with 79k miles. They're asking $24900 which seems priced right in NC and matches what KBB and NADA says. Carfax shows locally owned and serviced every 5k or so miles. Serpentine was done at 70k.

I'm going to look at it again today when I get done work. Anything I should make sure I check when I open the hood and crawl under?

The only Fords I've owned have been classics. I'm usually a Wrangler guy.

Well, the big ones are check for rust damage, especially in the rear cab corners and make sure it has a V8. You don't want the head aches of an Ecoboost.

No rust. 5.0 that sounds healthy. I’m going to ask the dealership to let me bring it over to the local Ford dealership for a pre-sale inspection.

The pre sale inspection sounds like your best bet. It will be even better if the technician at the dealer allows you to go over the truck with him. That way he can point things out to you as he sees them and you can get a very good look at the undercarriage while it is on a lift.

6290988, the some 5.0's did have oblong shaped cylinders in 2011. I think one of the symptoms is a knocking sound at idle, you may want to do some research on here on the subject.

My boss has the turbo 6 in his 2012 and has over 110k miles and loves it so I didn't listen to his comment.

I've been reading up on info on this forum. It sounds fine at idle and acceleration. No pinging or knocking. Pre Inspection is only $115. Dealer said they wouldn't cover it but I was welcome to drive it there for the inspection.

I have the same truck.

When you drive the truck, see if you feel any type of shudder upon takeoff. I have had the clutch packs in the rear end replaced twice.

I always feel an extended warranty is solid piece of mind. I would not usually buy the warranty from the dealer, but from your financial institution they are usually cheaper.

I didn't realize Ford ever offered the old limited slip diffs in this generation F150. Next time the clutches go out you should have a True Trac installed, it will last the life of the truck (and then some).
