what happened!?!

My e250 work van has the same motor and it hauls some heavy crap including my tools and other misc BS but she still pulls hard when you put it to the floor!
I was a bit sketchy when I first got it, thinking oh man is this thing gonna be wimpy, compared to my old 03 e350 with the 5.4 but it has surprised the hell out of me!

My 2010 4.6 3v has 13K on it and now and then I'll nail it from about 10MPH and and the tires will bark. I don't do it often but it seems to have more grunt now than it did at 5K. If someone would have told me 20 years ago that a 280.7 CID motor would do that in a big truck I wouldn't have believed them. My 2010 work truck has the 4.6 2v with 14K miles on it and the difference is a staggering underachievement.
I can't imagine what an EB would be like. Must be nice.

Well it was about 80 which is the norm right now in the Houston mornings, I've always used premium gas I've found that it got rid of the "octane knock" that i had the first 2 weeks i owned the truck. The only difference was i went from using Kroger gas for the past 8 months to shell gas....I'm very weird about where i get gas i like to stay with one place just for the fact that i THINK it's better for my truck, i don't know if that's true or not but it's what i do. I wanted to see what the difference was between Kroger gas and shell gas so i switched, it seems it made a big difference, my truck seems to just run better or smoother for some reason.

I do think the type of gas has an effect in the performance im no gas additives wiz but i know some gas has better/more/less additives than others...why...i dunno. I'm gonna stick with shell for awhile then switch back to Kroger and see if there is a difference again

Higher octane doesn't equal more power. Using higher octane if you don't need it is pointless. The purpose of higher octane is to prevent detonation which can occur with higher compression ratios and forced induction. Higher octane is actually harder to combust making it better for those types of motors
Thanks for posting.

I know higher octane doesn't mean more power, it just prevents pre-detonation better. However, here in WI, premium gas has no ethanol, which I think makes a difference. My truck runs better with premium (I know, wrong section, 06 XLT 5.4L flex). Another thing I wonder is if the PCM recognizes the premium fuel and advances the timing.
