what happened!?!
So I'm on my way to work this morning about 4:30am driving normal speed. I turn onto a major road and gun it... at first all was normal then something happened... My truck "woke up" it was as if i got an extra 100hp all of a sudden, i mean it put me back in my seat, i liked it allot. But i am concerned now, why after 1 year of owning the truck will it just wake up like that, it's a 2010 4.6l 3v supercrew with about 40k on it

I'm no professional, but my dad has the same motor in his 2010 FX2, and had a similar experience after 26k. He started using a higher grade fuel (91 octane as opposed to 87) and after a few tanks he seemed to have gained what seemed to be a TON more horsepower.
The only thing I could rationalize at the time was that perhaps the ecu remapped itself because of the better fuel and gave him a bit more power.
Obviously if you haven't changed your fuel type, my theory is completely out the window lol.
In any case, he's put about 21k more on the truck since then, and the power is still all there. Scary power, especially pulling out of a toll booth... ask me how I know lol.
My 2012 FX2 Screw with the ecoboost feels about the same, but doesn't sound NEAR as awesome as that 4.6.....

Well there goes my theory lol.
Hes always eventually ended up putting higher grade fuel in everything he owns... hard habit to break from the old days. Can't tell you how many times i've heard the story about how when he was young, regular gas was 91 octane...
I've been putting 91 in my ecoboost, but only because my owners manual suggested it lol
Anyone else have any ideas about the sudden power gain?

Higher octane doesn't equal more power. Using higher octane if you don't need it is pointless. The purpose of higher octane is to prevent detonation which can occur with higher compression ratios and forced induction. Higher octane is actually harder to combust making it better for those types of motors

Well was it a nice cool morning? I used to have this effect when I lived in Phoenix,AZ, In the morning of a warm day, it was really really cool and so in the morning I could tell there was a little more pep on the low end than later in the day. The truck ran 100% all the time but in the mornings it ran @ 101%
