Thanks for all of the fast input. We bought a 2012 with the turbo Ecoboost. We drove the 302 and the Ecoboost. The Eco seemed to run harder and accelerated better. The 302 sounded better though. I did not try them with a trailer. Maybe my mistake?? Now I need to get a newer 22 to 24 ft enclosed trailer. If I find out this won't work out, I'll have a low mile Ecoboost for sale!

EDIT: You can't go wrong with either, but the EB might give you more of what you're after.

You made the right decision. The EB does tow better especially hills. The 5.0L is a good engine but for towing it's not as good as the EB.

with that weight and always towing, 5.0 . you'll just have to hump it in the mountain passes, but the trailer is ~2500lbs, the car is ~2500lbs, the 5.0 will be A-OK and "probably" get better fuel mileage.

try to find a vertical or horizontal v-nose configuration to help cut the wind, trust me. the EB can suck the fuel down if you drag a sail. and put a bed cover on the truck to minimize the height difference at the leading edge of the trailer, unless you get a vertical V.

you also didn't mention what gears? max tow? hd payload?
