Michelin X-ice has a 60k km treadwear warranty. It lasts twice as long as Blizzak (I've had both and have worn out both) and has equal traction. Blizzaks are over-rated. Hakkas are the best and X-ice and Blizzaks are equal and a close second for ice traction. Blizzaks and X-ice are much more cost competitive than Hakkas.

I bought some Firestone winters for my 2013 truck rolling on a spare set of 17's from a 2010. 2nd set of Firestone winters. First on a truck. I've ran 3 sets of general, 2 Blizzak and now 2 firestone. Blizzak I preferred best and on my escort I didn't notice excessive tread wear. I ended up loving the generals as they were less road noise, great tread wear great price and were comparable to Blizzak except didn't do as well on pure ice. As in frozen smooth lake ice.

I run a set of steel wheels and Blizzaks in the winter. The key is to get them off once the temps get above 45 or so consistently. The will last you a few winters this way.

Just got a full set of Blizzaks on 17" steelies from Tirerack. Put them on the day after our big 18" snow storm last week, I drove home with the stock 20's, and the ABS got a good work out. Put the Blizzaks on the next morning, and drove in even deeper snow and great traction, even through drifts higher than my bumper(There was snow inside the engine compartment), and when stopping, the ABS barked only once when I touched the white paint at the intersection.

The ride is smoother and softer too, but my MPH is off even after 3 recalibrations with my SCT, so going to revert to stock and have the dealer reset the PCM for these until spring when I can put the OEM back on. Funny thing, I didn't have to reset the TPMS on the truck.

The full package, wheels, tires, TPMS, balance and shipping was just under $1100 for the set of 4.

I feel this is related to the smaller groves, it gives more surface area for sipe contact but less room for snow/slush evacuation. The Hankook have a little larger groves but still quite a bit of siping, plus the price is right, $150-$200 less than the Blizzak. I know the Blizzak use a dual compound rubber and when the Blizzak is half worn the winter compound is used up and only a more all-season compound remains. Not sure if the Hankook is the same, but last I knew only the Blizzak did this.
I used to run ipikes on the car and truck and they were awesome. Tire of choice for winter autocross racing (Subaru's on frozen Lakes). I have heard they aren't quite the same these days, not sure why. Blizzaks do work well and will be my winter tire this year for the new truck.
