Question What to do first?

Hello Everyone,

I am new to the forum and just bought my first truck. I recently purchased a Tuxedo Black 2010 F150 Lariat SCrew. I want to make a couple of mods in the near future, but I am not sure which one to do first?
  • Line-X
  • BakFlip F1
Does anyone have any recommendations on which one I should do first?

I would greatly appreciate your feedback.

Btw...this forum rocks. I read it daily.

Default Sequence of Mods...

Line-X first, then add the cover.

I don't have that type of cover, but I think treating the bed first would make more sense than adding the cover and then having to worry about the bed treatment material getting on the cover, rails or mounting hardware.

That material is tenacious and overspray is very difficult to remove. Seems that sequence would make for a cleaner and more professional appearance.

Congratulations on your new SCrew. You're going to love it.

just because your asking for opinions Im going to give you mine. If your putting the cover on it, it would seem like a waste to spray it. Correct me if Im wrong but the F1 is water tight so youll never get anything in there to rust away unless your doing it for the cosmetic reason. Just my 2 cents

go with the cover and the money you save on not doing the bed spend on something else.

I would recommend doing both. People make the mistake of assuming that because you put a tonneau on that you won't use your bed.

I have a Bakflip (G2) and haul my 4-wheeler, lumber, generator, tools, camping/hunting gear, etc. My bed is excessively scratched currently. I'm not worried because I'm getting it sprayed in the next 2 weeks. The first thing the spray folks are going to do is sand the entire bed so what will my current scratches hurt?

Get the Bakflip first because that adds functionality/security now. Scratching the bed for a little while won't hurt anything because when you get it sprayed they will be scratching it anyway. Besides, by having the tonneau first it'll protect the bedliner from fading once you do get it.

Just my $.02. Good luck with your new truck!

Wrong. I have the F1 and I still need to get my bed sprayed. It is getting all scratched up does not look very good. The only reason why it is not sprayed yet is because LineX is 1.5hrs away and I need to get a day off to get it done.

I think you missed the point he said it will not rust due to the cover being water tight. You said your getting it done becuase it looks bad. He specificly stated there is no reason to get the liner unless for purely cosmetic reasons. He is right...............

I put a Bakflip HD on mine and just bought a rubber bed mat from Dee Zee. Wasn't that expensive (I think around $100) and works great allowing me to throw stuff in the bed without scratching the heck out of it. Also keeps all my stuff in the bed from sliding around. Mat is thicker than I expected too.

Don't worry about putting the cover on first as it really is about a 20 minute install, therefore removal of the cover and rails should be slightly quicker whenever you do get it sprayed. I would probably take it completely off to spray it as others have suggested.

Whatever you decide will be fine, and enjoy your new wheels.

IMHO I would Line-X the truck first.
If you put a cover on then throw things in the back the bed will get beat up fast. This means you have to leave the cover on all the time or accept the possibility of rust.
With Line-X you can still throw things in the back with out worrying about damaging the bed. Then with the cover on or off you have nothing to worry about.
