Default What did Ford do to our AC units?

If its less than 75 out, cools and cycles freezes you out. But if it is over 75, the ac takes forever to cool.

Are there any hacks? any improvement's to make?

Today it was 92 here in Houston and it was not until I got on the freeway that the unit began to cool. Seems that Ford has it cycling the ac compressor off around 44 or so?

10 k miles new 2013 to me.

If you have an EB engine, it's due to the crappy undersized AC compressor Ford uses to meet mileage requirements. You can try insulating the freon lines (helps a little). If your really adventurous, try installing a shut-off valve in the coolant line so that hot coolant doesn't go into the heater core. It's not like we use the heater much in Texas anyway.

I installed a shutoff valve on my old chevy. It actually helped.

Insulating the lines helps a couple degrees but the ACs just suck. Sorry :/

no issues with mine....probably has to do with your truck sitting in the texas sun..gets everything warm and it takes a few minutes to cool down

Agreed. It is probably just heat soak from the dark colored dash. My Mazda 3 does the same thing, it takes a fair amount of time for the A/C to blow cool if the car has been sitting in the sun for any amount of time. Both that car and my F150 are fine once the A/C has been on a few minutes.

I never had an issue with my Platty but I noticed it yesterday here in Houston that it took a good 5 minutes or so to actually get cold lol. It's not terrible but man it's hot as **** for a little bit

Mine isn't very very cold either. My 07 Ranger was so cold you couldn't keep it in Max. I did insulate my lines in my 13 5.0L and it helps. I'd love to see someone out valves on one and report back. My ranger had a bypass valve.

I use a sun shade in the windshield when I leave the truck. Serves two purposes....protects the dash from sun damage and keeps the cab way cooler. My AC never has trouble keeping me cool and I hate heat.
