I owned a 2011 for 3.5 years and a 2014 for 2 months. Never had a shudder from either truck.

Had a 2012 XLT SC 4x4, now I have a 2012 SC FX4 both EcoBoost. The XLT had the transmission shudder which my dealer fixed on the first try with a computer update, my FX4 doesn't show any shutter symptoms, maybe it was built later into the model year.

Anyway, sounds to me like a dealer issue.

Did you try a custom tune for that issue?

Have you tried greasing the driveshaft slip yoke and transfer case splines??

You can maintain your own equipment.

Hmm...which truck is the best...

2000 4.2L: rear end hum at highway speeds that would never go away after much servicing. Turned out the axle was milled or cast a little out of spec and this was a common issue.
2006 4.6L: brakes were completely bio degradable, needing new rotors every six months. The engine was gutless
2008 5.4L: Anyone got some ball joints I could borrow?
2011 Eco: Why u suck up soooo much water, and ur engine light flashing annoys me.
2013 Eco: Huh, well nothing special happening here, just one little engine stumble that cleared after shutting off and never came back.
2014 Eco: So, you're having an affair with the mechanic at the dealership...I can handle that...but it would be nice if you came home once in a while...sheesh!

There you go, pick your poison. Personally the 2013 was the best truck of the bunch. This 2014 has been a complete nightmare, I'd avoid this one. There were some changes made that I think are either left over parts or stuff that's being carried over to the 2015's. Hard to say, but it's scary bad. To be fair to the 2000 I bought it used, and for what I paid for it, it was a great truck.

Just my opinion but I would go with the '14. I always like to stay away from the first year of a drive change ('11) and the further away from it ('14)hopefully the kinks have been worked out. Again just my opinion and I am not bashing the Eco motors (so please don't make this a debate about motors) but I always like a mechanical device with the fewest moving parts so the 5.0 would be my choice (and is as I just got my '14 Lariat with the 5.0). Again no disrespect.

Which is the better year? That all depends on the individual truck as you can read all about on this forum.

Another thing I take into account that on one or two year old vehicles, why did the original owner get rid of it? Problems with it?

Whichever meets your mileage, age, and price requirements while having the features you want. I have a 2011 that I purchase in 2013 and I love it.
