Mobil 1 5w30 with a Motorcraft filter. Change every 7,500 miles. Anything else and your engine will grenade. Hey, you asked for oil advise. This is mine

my $.03 (inflation) is use any good quality synthetic (Mobile 1 fits the bill just fine) and use only Motorcraft filters... i don't know about the eco engine, but in other ford engines like the 5.4l that back flow preventer in the Motorcraft filter likely prevented most of the timing related issues that seem to be to some degree common in those motors)
This is what I recommend also.

I would use Amsoil because I do consider it the best, but.....Mobil 1 is great and inexpensive.
I will not use conventional oil at all anymore. Strictly synthetic because of how deep it penetrates VS conventional for lubrication.

I currently have a '13 SCrew Ecoboost 4x4. 40,000 miles and not issues. Using Motorcraft Filter and Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 5W - 30.

Also have had three Expeditions ( 2 w/4.6 and one 5.4 liter), all had 150,000+ miles, same oil and Motorcraft Filter with no problems.

Currently own a '93 Lightning with 160,000 and no issues.

All oil changed at 5,000 miles.

Definitely use the Motorcraft Filter with the silicone check valve.

Just my 2-cents worth

Thanks for your opinion. One question, what is the silicone check valve on a Motorcraft oil filter? I've used Motorcraft filters plenty of time, but never heard of the silicone check valve.

For everything you ever wanted to know about oil/filters and even some stuff you didn't want to know. I am not affiliated with Bob, just seems to be one of the better sources of info.

it's a back flow preventer... to my knowledge it's a common feature among motorcraft filters and it seems logical that it would help keep oil in places during start up that without it, wouldn't have oil. there are some claims that not using it is a contributing factor to the vct and other timing issues in the 5.4l

This is a great thread.

Other than changing 5W-30 to 5W-20, for the 5.0 engine, would the general opinions here regarding oil brands (synthetics) pretty much be the same? Maybe that's a dumb question, I guess...

The only dumb question is the one never asked.

Yes, the opinions would be the same. Mobil 1 synthetic.
I get mine on sale @ Costco that is a 6 quart box for $26 , regularly $36.

That's more then 2 cents worth.

Great info, and vehicle experiences are better then opinions alone.

The only thing I can add is that I used Mobil 1 10w30 instead of the 5w30. In warmer climates it has proven superior in lasting and lubing. I'd use 5w if I lived in the northern/colder climes.

YMMV
