Default What antenna is this?

I bought this truck this week and it had a thin antenna screwed into this plate. It is right at the back of the roof in front of the bed light. The plate goes through the roof, so I can't remove it. I thought it might be the source of a slightly stained ceiling in the rear of the truck. It's not the satellite radio. That one is up front on the roof. It's not the radio antenna. That one is on the front passenger fender. Any idea what this antenna could be, and if it could be the source of the stain? Also, is there some kind of cap I can put over this plate? Thanks for any advice.

Some sort of two way radio. I own a couple bucket trucks that used to belong to a power company and they both have similar antennas along with visible signs of where a radio unit used to be mounted in the dash. Either remove it and plug the hole or just paint it to match in order to better hide it.

I don't see any visible signs inside the cab of any kind of radio or of where the line goes once it is inside the truck. I ended up cutting the antenna flush with the top of the rubber "nipple" and screwing the base back on. It looks cleaner than the picture above. I may end up taking it off and putting some silicone sealant under the base plate and putting it back on to ensure that it doesn't leak.

Related question....do the rear lights up there ever cause a leak into the cab?

LOL!! Yeah, that seems to have been an issue. Throw some silicone on that, too.

Yes, they are notorious for leaking.

Looks like a typical NMO mount antenna base. Used for commercial radio, ham radio, a variety of antenna applications. If you don't need/want this, do a search for NMO 3/4" hole plug. Remove the mount, and put some sealer on the hole plug before you pop it in. Easy fix.
