Default Are wet Keys OK?

Will a key that's been submerged start & run the truck OK? I do a lot of boating, canoeing, kayaking, fly-fishing etc. and worry someday will I'll forget to place my key in a watertight container and get it soaked. Maybe I should hide a ditch key somewhere?

If I'm getting in water or something I stash the key in glove box and use the key pad to get in and out

But if you have no key pad I've heard of people washing their key in washing machine and it work fine. Just would advise against it though! Ha

Forgot about mine in my pocket at the beach one day. Was under water a good 15 minutes and works like a champ

Water will not hurt the transponder but if you have the remote entry on the key it could mess that up.

Default Experience Counts

Happy to hear the truck will start when an adventure becomes wetter than expected.

Thanks for sharing wet key experiences.
(Zip Lock bags for keys are standard equipment in my driver door pocket)

You could find a basic key of the same shape without a transponder. It would work to just unlock the door. You could carry that with you and not worry about it getting wet. stash the transponder key someplace in the vehicle and lock it.
