I thought about plugging the keyhole and epoxy'ing over it. If the battery ever goes dead I'll just pop the hood from the visible latch behind the grille and boost it there. I've done it plenty of times for kicks, and if the battery is dead the alarm won't go off right away from opening the hood (if the truck is locked). Then you can boost it right there and unlock it to get in and start it. You just may be greeted with an alarm when the battery gets some juice, lol.
Speaking of popping the hood, it's pretty damn easy to break into the engine bay on these trucks (theoretically speaking, of course...I've never tried this and don't plan on it) They'd smash a bit of the grille, unplug the horn which is right in front of the radiator and the plug harness is in plain reach, pop the hood latch with a flathead screwdriver and do whatever they need to do in the engine bay to get into the truck. Remove immobilizer, alarm, play with some wires....whatever. Also makes me nervous.
I thought about finding a remote device for my garage door switch at home. We wired all the garage door openers to a switch on the wall when we built, so If i installed something that I could control from my phone or whatever....If the truck gets stolen as soon as I notice it's gone I shut down the garage doors at home. That would at least give me some time to get home and make the openers forget all the current remotes. Could be my paranoia, but we get our F-150's stolen from the nicest of our golf course neighbourhoods around here. Rich kids that have nothing to do. I've already been carhopped once.

This is exactly how my old s10 was broken into, they punched the door lock and peeled the dash back and stole my deck. I assumed on such a newer truck this wouldnt be such an easy thing to do..... Great

That really sucks, just realized they can also do the same to the tailgate....arrrghh, so much for just locking it.
Honestly you'd think manufacturer's would do such 'break in' tests where one would have to make a bigger scene to get in a vehicle, especially since this pop lock deal has been going on for awhile.

You don't have to plug the keyhole. Just remove the lock rod that hooks to the key lock or unhook it and wire it out of the way. Very rare that the battery would not allow the keyfob to unlock the door.

I do like idea of hooking up train horns to the alarm too. You could in theory set it on a delay switch with a couple Wolos under the drivers seat. This would really screw their eat drums up for life.

Thanks all for your thoughts.
Sorry I have not responded to this thread yet but I was in beginning of the 6 hour drive when this happened.
To answers questions,
- yes, there was not 1 but 2 laptops in that backpack. Stupid I know but I was cleaning one and I use the other.
- the pack also had my personal check book in it.
- I've alerted credit monitoring that I have to take care of ssn being compromised.
- changes passwords to ALL my accounts and emails. You have no idea how long this takes until you do it.
- had a police report done. Officers said the guy(s) wore gloves and they responded to a call just like this dealing with a truck the day before about a mile down the road. The guy had all his firefighting equipment in the back and they didn't touch it...only stole his cell phone charger!! Wtf!!
- I was parked in front of publix, about 5 spaces out and 2 rows over from front door, backed in with drivers door facing publix and no parked next to me, on a bright sunny day!! And police said no cameras appear to be pointing there. Wtf!!
- started the process of the claim with USAA. Anyone done this claim with them? I could use rundown on how they work the payment on damage and theft. I have a $500 deductible so that sucks. :-(
- later today I will be shopping for a 2 way alarm so that I can price that out. Thoughts on brand and model?
