who has actually had their warranty voided, or personaly know someone(not, i heard of a story where a guys uncle type stuff) has actually had theirs voided for modifications. Im really on the fence about a tuner and want to know of real life experiences from people about voided warranties as it applies to a modified ecoboost truck.

i can't remeber ever hearing anyone on here say thier warrenty was voided buy a tuner, But alot of people say it will. you are better to check with your dealer and see what they say.

Never heard of anybody actually getting denied, even with a diesel. I'd hold out for 10,000 miles or so if you're on the fence. Most defects should rear their ugly heads before 10,000 miles.

Life is too short not to drive a tuned Ecoboost truck...

Someone just denied yesterday with a Livernois tuner. May have other mods as well but he said the tune was why it was denied. He may stumble on this thread and post more about it.

Tuners are a grey area....If something happens to the power train this is the first thing they are going to look for/at.

Is it worth the risk? I've got zero desire to tune regardless if my warranty is up or not I just see the point for a few MPG or few extra HP. I guess I'm old fashioned.

yet you installed a cat back? you also would never see the gains of an ecoboost on a 5.0 with a tuner, and yes your old fashioned. lol

Yeah it's only a catback. Key word is from the catalytic converter back I didn't do it to get any performance gains and doubt I've got any from it. I did it only because it sounds bad ***. If I start messing with anything beyond the catback then I tread into warranty issues and if I wanted increased performance It would make sense to go right back to the headers. As it stands I might get a CO sensor fault but I doubt that. Nothing much has really changed from stock it's just a SIDO system to give you the illusion of dual exhaust.

I'm in a near a big city where catbacks are more common and I talked to my service rep they don't care about catbacks and he said they've never denied a warranty claim as result of one. He could be BS'ing me but I chose to believe him. I'm sure If I asked him about a tuner I'd get a different response.

I think my issue with a tuner on the EB more then any other engine is the fact there is and still can be condensation issues there is no difinitive word that this has been 100% resolved from Ford. Should you go with a tuner and something happens you can bet the dealer will try and pin it on that. Yeah I know you can state the w/e the name of the Mod act that says they have to prove the mod did it.....you're still going to have a battle or fight on your hand. I'd rather play the lottery I prefer that loosing gamble.

yeah i checked with the dealer on my cat back. they said the warrenty won't cover the parts i put on but everything else is good.

FYI for everyone, a cat-back exhaust will NOT void your warranty. If anyone tells you otherwise they're lying. Look up the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act for more info.


The main way your warranty can be voided is through abuse. If your transmission goes out and it comes to the dealership with bald rear tires
from you doing burnouts, expect them to deny it. If your engine blows up from you not changing oil, expect them to deny it. If your turbo blows up(rare,but possible) from turning the boost way up through an aggressive tuner, expect them to deny it.

Use common sense. If you're gonna play you're pay.
