Video on Ford Service Department Opinions on Eco or 5.0

I would think a Ford tech's view on the topic would be skewed more by what they see in the shop more often and not so much by their driving impression, unless of course they own one of trucks.

I like boost, I like power, I like going fast.....but I could not and cannot bring myself to get into a v6 turbo truck. I have had turbo'd cars, and I know that regardless of ones opinion, a turbo'd engine always has more maintenance and repair costs long term. Sure, it makes amazing torque down low, and when towing will blow a 5.0 out of the water.....but realistically the 5.0 will tow 90% of what 1/2 truck owners need towed anyways....even if it won't get to the hill quicker than the ecoboost. It won't need synthetic oil, won't need premium fuel, will get about the same exact fuel mileage, and sounds much better.

And to tow beyond the other 10%, what would be the tow vehicle of choice? For most, a TURBO diesel...which is even more expensive to maintain, but people do it because it's the best tool for the job. Everyone has to decide what's best for their situation - I'm happy with mine.

Now ask them which engine they would take in a new F-250 and record the results. I bet they would go for the turbo then

That is only true because the capability of the diesel is so much higher than the gas engine. The gas 6.2 in the 250 is way more reliable than the diesel but if you need the power of the diesel you have no choice. On the F150, because the capability is the same whether you have a V8 or the Eco it makes the V8 the superior choice, hands down.

I drove a 2016 5.0 rental while my backup camera was being fixed. There was not instant power and torque down low, you had to get into the throttle. The most annoying thing was the truck constantly downshifting while going uphill on overpasses. It did this while I had the cruise control on. My 2013 EB with the 3.31 gear does not do this, maybe due to the low end torque.

Yes, on stock tuning the lag is pretty bad. After I added my 5☆ tuner with a 91 perf/tow tune the lag has been significantly improved. It will never be as responsive as the N/A 5.0 but it is pretty impressive after the tune.

Sound is up to preference - turbo spool sounds good too
Listened to a 5.4 V8 for 7 years in my last truck - a change is welcome
