Default very hard low speed downshift

I have a 2012 EB FX4 with 43k miles. Twice now I have had a VERY hard downshift. I'm guessing a 3 to 1 shift, but I was not looking. Both times I had slowed to a low speed ~5 mph and was coasting. Today in a traffic jam and a couple weeks ago when I pulled into a truck stop and was coasting around to pick which pump I wanted to stop at.

It jerked the truck like a low speed rear end accident.

My truck was doing that also until I bought a SCTX4 tuner and 5 star performance / tow tunes. If you want to actually enjoy driving your truck this is the way to go...... it makes a night and day difference in how the transmission behaves!

Do a KAM reset. This tends to fix a fair amount of shifting issues. A tuner is also something to look into as well-especially if you have an EB.

Was your truck included in the recall for the OSS?

Safety Recall 16S19 / NHTSA Recall 16V-248

Supposedly the software is coming out this month but it's already the 18th so who knows.

Go to Ford's Website and check for these two recalls.
The molded frame extended coverage warranty I placed below the safety recall is for them to replace before the program. All the program will do it stop the tranny from shifting to 1 when the Sensor on the leadframe ****s up. Push getting it replaced. Mine is being done next week. Call your dealer first if they do nothing call the 800 number and file a claim. But try to go in a few times about it first.

Recall Date: APR 25, 2016
Recall Title: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE REPROGRAMMING
NHTSA Recall Number: AWAITING#
Ford Recall Number: 16S19
Recall Description: SOME VEHICLES MAY EXPERIENCE AN INTERMITTENT LOSS OF THE TRANSMISSION OUTPUT SPEED SENSOR (OSS) SIGNAL TO THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE, POTENTIALLY RESULTING IN A TEMPORARY, UNINTENDED DOWNSHIFT INTO FIRST GEAR. IN SOME CASES, THE OSS SIGNAL COULD RECOVER WHILE DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE WILL RESUME NORMAL FUNCTION; IN OTHER CASES THE VEHICLE MAY NEED TO BE STOPPED AND RESTARTED TO REGAIN NORMAL TRANSMISSION OPERATION. FORD IS AWARE OF THREE REPORTS OF ACCIDENTS AND NO INJURIES RELATED TO THIS CONDITION ON THE AFFECTED VEHICLES.
Risk to Safety: DEPENDING ON VEHICLE SPEED AT THE TIME OF THE DOWNSHIFT, AN UNINTENDED DOWNSHIFT INTO FIRST GEAR MAY OCCUR CAUSING THE REAR TIRES TO SLIDE OR LOCK UP UNTIL THE VEHICLE SLOWS. THIS MAY RESULT IN A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL WITHOUT WARNING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy Program: OWNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED BY MAIL AND INSTRUCTED TO TAKE THEIR VEHICLE TO A FORD OR LINCOLN DEALER TO HAVE THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE REPROGRAMMED WITH UPDATED SOFTWARE. THERE WILL BE NO CHARGE FOR THIS SERVICE. FORD IS EXCLUDING REIMBURSEMENT FOR COSTS BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY PROGRAM WOULD PROVIDE FOR A FREE REPAIR FOR THIS CONCERN. FORD WILL FORWARD A COPY OF THE NOTIFICATION LETTERS TO DEALERS TO THE AGENCY WHEN AVAILABLE.
Status: 12 - RECALL INCOMPLETE. REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE.(8/18/2016)

FSA Title: MOLDED LEADFRAME EXTENDED COVERAGE

Thanks, it's not listed when I bring up my VIN number. It appears this is an issue that's been addressed and has a fix. I will talk to the dealer when I get my oil changed.
