Either its the turbos adding HP and torque (and therefor more fuel) or the larger 5.0 revving 2,000 rpm higher (therefor adding more fuel).......it's either more cubic inches, more revs (5.0) or turbos spooling up and adding fuel. That's probably why they get within 1 mpg (either way) of each other. Think of it this way --- when the turbos are spooled up and addng 14.7 psi of boost (an additional atmosphere), the 3.5 liter EB just became the equivalent of a 7.0 liter engine. And, you have to feed the beast....
For towing though, I'll still take 90% of the torque all in at 1,900 rpm....

Didn't you say last week that you got 32 mpg hauling a 9000lb bobcat at 75 mph?

I forget.

Well yea your right about the broad torque curve, peak torque comes earlier in the power band. Peak power is still pretty high though, above 5k rpms. If your pushing the limits of an ecoboost its revving up to make power.

Yea thanks lol. What he said about the torque curve is right, but the engine still has to rev to make power..... Its max power output still comes above 5k rpms...

A 5.0 wins if a guy covets the throaty power of a strong-sounding motor.

An eco wins if a guy covets the pulling power of a strong-acting motor.

After 22 pages have we accomplished anything different from the other 500 eco vs 5.0 threads?

From a forum perspective, a thread like this generates hits. Hits are part of Google's algorithm to direct web traffic and advertisements. That means money for those vested interests.

As to whether or not this debate will ever end. Probably not.

It never will be done.... But you know whenever I see an ecoboost with exhaust work and he goes heavy on the throttle I still let out a little giggle to myself.

These are even more entertaining than the Ford vs Chevy arguments at work ( I even stick up for the ecoboost in them )
