Another thing he pointed out is that if I start double clutching when I shift it will get me somewhere in the low 4's in the quarter mile.

Good luck mate!!
That is pretty funny though ....

If you do a lot of towing it's not even a close call Eco versus 5.0 imo. Used them both and the Eco is so much stronger on the low end. Climbing hills with about 8k the Eco walks off and leaves the 5.0 in the dust.

If you're not doing a lot of towing then I'd say either motor is just fine. Nothing wrong with the 5.0 imo and the Eco is another 900 bucks!

who takes a truck and tries to blow away other drivers on the street?

LOL. I hope it was sarcasm. If some Chevy wants to blow my doors off I ain't playing, don't care.

guess I am an embarrassment to other F150 owners.

It's not how much power a motor makes
......it's how fast it can deliver the power to the wheels.

Even though the GM 6.2L Silverado (420hp / 460lbs) has 55hp / 40lbs ft of torque MORE it was still considerably slower up the Gauntlet then the lower powered Ecoboost for example. This is a PRO Argument for the EcoBoost in towing though, not for daily driving. For DD either motor is fine. The GM 6.2L is an LTx motor which is far more simplistic in design which equates to lower long term maintenance costs, so it has it's own pro's.

The caveats of the Ecoboost is it's a far more complex engine which equates to higher maintenance costs down the road. Many know this, and chose the simpler 5.0L for the cheaper long run. I personally know the Turbo's are rated to 150,000 and run about ~$750 each ($1500 total) plus labor, unless you do it yourself. You simply need to know what you're getting into if you plan on keeping it a long time.

So of course, no the EcoBoost is not all Unicorns ****tin skittles.
It's got Caveats to it , but that didn't stop me from taking it home either.
I'm an old GM Muscle car guy with 2 pro-touring GM classics with LSx powertrains, and I KNOW what it costs to put a twin turbo motor into a vehicle. Upwards of $10,000 to do it right with tuning, etc. So I honestly was like a horny jackrabbit waiting for the twin turbo EcoBoosts to prove themselves and take one home.
