Using shims rather than lift blocks

Is this an acceptable practice. I am supposed to get my bilsteins installed tomorrow and ordered a 3" block for the back. The guy I spoke to on the phone said the block wasn't in but he recommended using shims. Is this better, worse or the same as using blocks.

Never thought leveling a truck would be so difficult. I am not actually wanting it leveled but rather installing the bilsteins at max setting 2.25" and then adding rack back in with a block. I don't want to do an AAL.

Please advise.

You use shims to correct the drive-line angle...not lift it.
