Default Using Mobile 1, but what about Pennzoil Ultra

Okay, did my first Oil change at 1,000 miles, then will do it between 5,000 - 7,500 or whenever my OLM tells me to which ever comes first. I currently use Mobile 1 Synthetic 5W 30 in my 2012 EB.

I have been getting 6 quarts of Mobile 1 5W 30 for about $52, today I found Pennzoil Ultra 5W 30 Synthetic on sale for 6.50 a quart for 6 quarts or about $13 (or about $2.17 a quart) cheaper than Mobile 1 (Usually they are very close in price).

So... what have you heard about Pennzoil Ultra? Should I buy them up? I would have enough for the next 10 oil changes, or stick with Mobile 1?

I have never had Mobile 1 do me wrong, so I don't know if the savings would be worth it. Looking on the internet, I see pretty good reviews for the Ultra, but thought I would get first hand knowledge from people on this forum with real life experience with them.

Thanks.

If you check out bob is the oil guy forums they have pretty favorable reviews. Plenty of good info there and I'm pretty sure someone has an analysis of that oil in the same engine. I would buy whatever is cheaper

*edit* check Costco out. They have a $10 off per case coupon which brings it to $26 for 6 qts in my area.

Penzoil Platinum is HT0-6 compliant and would be a great choice.

I use Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic. Last month O'Reilly's had it on sale buy one get one free. So 6 quarts came out to like $27 after tax. Cant beat that for 6 quarts of full synthetic.I bought 18 so I'm good for the next 2 oil changes.

PU is surely good enough, I use Castrol Gtx now and always used synt. before and my engine still runs great with no ticking sound...yet.

Wal-mart sells the mobile 1 in a 5qt jug for around $25. I've been buying them for years.

Looks like Pennzoil Ultra has some pretty good reviews. I like the fact that it's on sale too. Might just have to try it.

I normally wouldn't be one to recommend Pennzoil, but if you read around, problems with turbo vehicles using Mobil 1 are somewhat common. for some reason it has a tendency to build up in the turbo oil feeds and sometimes eat the turbo seals as well. though, this problem does mostly occur in Subarus, Mitsubishis and Mazdas.

how much are you paying for Mobil 1? I've never had to pay more than 6$ a quart for it as it always seems to be on sale somewhere. Never tried Pennzoil yet since Mobil 1 is fairly cheap and has never let me down. According to the Oil samples I use to do at my oil job at 12,000 miles I still had ~30% oil life yet on my vortech supercharged Thunderbird running mobile one and my truck at the time, an over worked EFI 300-6, could squeak 20,000 out of an oil change. I trusted the results from our oil lab, it was responsible for 100's of 2000hp+ diesel engines! BTW, guys at work running just about any name brand oil, were getting 5000-6000 miles out of the cheap 100% dino oil.
