So I wrecked my 2013 FX2 on Saturday. Front end destroyed. I am pretty sure Allstate is going to total the truck.

In looking at replacement trucks, I am planning on used as I cannot afford one of the new trucks. I have found quite a few in my range but a lot are Ecoboost trucks. I keep reading the horror stories on some of these engines and the carbon build up and having to add a catch can (another cost) or drill a hole hole in the CAC, etc. Never had to do any of these things on my 5.0

Just trying to decide on passing on this engine and stick with the 5.0. Hopefully you guys can help in this decision.

That is a loaded question that will generate alot of hate on this forum but you asked opinions so I will give you mine. I own a problem child '14 Ecoboost and if I could do it all over again I would buy a 5.0 in a heartbeat, that is unless I found an XLT 6.2. I think the Eco is all hype and the 5.0 has better power delivery, IMHO. Drive the Eco trucks and decide for yourself though, just realize there are more systems to fail on a turbo gas engine with direct injection.

I've had very good luck with the 5L. My last truck had 375,000 miles on it.

FWIW, I believe the 6.2 is unobtanium in an XLT. I'm pretty sure the minimum trim level was Lariat. I finally found one last April and snatched it up. Regardless, it's worth doing a little looking because its a great powertrain and I like the traditional power steering as opposed to EPAS. You pay more at the gas pump though.

We have two ecoboosts in the family. I have had mine 3 months and my sister has had hers over a year. I think it is a great power plant and I have started to trust mine now that I have gotten use to it. The ecoboost just works for me. I did have an issue with it not starting, but it was a bad electrical splice, nothing to do with the engine. mine is a 13 with 102,000 and my sister's is an '11 with about 140,000 on it. Personally, this is the only engine I would get. (yes, I have driven the 5.0, great engine, but not enough torque for me)

I wouldn’t put down either. Have my eco three years and only put 22,500 on the clock but so far no issues. I tow an 8500 pound camper. Steep hills are a workout but I’m not one to floor it. I think you’d be okay with either. Hope you find a good one!

Do you do any towing? If not there’s not much to recommend an EB IMO.

And I was also thinking a search would have generated plenty to read already.
