USB2 mod and dash cam don't work
I finally had the time to wire up my Transcend dash cam today to the USB2 port on the back of the factory computer on my 2014 f150. Ran all the wiring and tested and it turned on like I had hoped, but not in record mode. I got the screen telling me to connect to the computer as if I was hooked up my laptop.
Ughhh, a total fml moment. So I basicalliy ran the long *** transcend cigarette wire through the headliner, b pilar, dash and glove box to hid that wiring instead of it dangling from the mirror. I just don't like having to keep plugging it in when I go for a drive. Going to email Transcend and see if there is something that needs to be changed in the camera or if there is an update to the software.

What version of Sync do you have intalled? If you have the most recent Update 4.4, it kills the usb2 port on the Sync module!

You plugged your dash cam into a computer (Sync) and it's acting like it's plugged into a computer, how strange!
I've had the reverse problem - trying to connect a GPS unit to my PC using a cable from a rechargeable bluetooth speaker that was JUST a power cable - no data lines connected.
It seems you need to prevent the data lines from connecting to your camera - either use a power-only cable or adapter or hack up your cable: http://www.podfeet.com/blog/tutorial...-novatel-mifi/

^ what Toddman said.
If you feel comfortable with splicing... you may be able to splice another 12v source behind the one you have in the dash and use that. Not Ideal... but an option that would still allow you to keep your already hidden wires... hidden.
**Edit**
DustMagnet, I hadn't seen that before. Thanks for posting the link

I was told to use the usb2 port as just a power source since the 2014's sync killed its use basically. Well it powered it, but it obviously does more.
What about splicing the cigarette power cord that came with the camera? Can I just cut off the huge power connector and try to splice on the micro usb connector for the back of the sync computer?

Before you cut off the cigarette lighter end... Take it apart by unscrewing the tip... Exposing the inside... The wire that goes to the centre tip is positive... The wire to the side is negative... Sometimes they will use all black wires ... Good luck

FYI the SYNC 4.4 deletes the USB 2 as an input for media files but it still works as a power output. I charge my iPhone all the time with it, it just doesn't recognized my phone as a music source.
