Default USB Port Question

Hey everyone.

So I am looking into adding a aftermarket touch screen stereo and I was curious if the stock USB port can be unhooked from the OEM radio and be plugged into an aftermarket one?

Not my picture but one I found online of the port.

If the replacement has usb capability yes, might have to get an adapter cable.

Yes it does. I didn't know if the stock USB had a "regular" male/female cable that plugged into the stock radio or what not. I've Never been behind the dash to look.

That port connects to the Sync module using a male USB Mini-B plug. So all you need is a Male Type A to female Mini-B adapter like this one:

That's exactly what I used so I can now use the stock "sync" plate USB port with my aftermarket stereo

That mini USB end of the cable/port is plugged in underneath the top of the dash. Just take off the rubber piece, and then there are 2 or 4 bolts(can't remember), I think they're 7mm, and then you should be able to look in and see the SYNC module and the USB plugged into the back

Thanks everyone. I ordered that little adapter. Stereo showed up today. Other parts should be here early next week. Can't wait to get this in...
