USB Flash Drive and Sync
All knowing board,
Is there a limit to the size flash drive sync will accept? I have a 1GB drive now and I'm going to get a larger one. Will a 16GB drive work? I searched syncmyride.com but didn't see a size limit.
Thanks,
PSU IE.

I looked at getting a flash drive but the cost was too high for the capacity I wanted. I bought a 500 gig external hard drive and did the USB mod and now it is installed in the glove compartment. Just an option. $55 spent total.

Hey Madd-Dog do you leave your hard drive plugged in all the time in the glove box? Reason I ask is I too did the USB2 mod and ran a cord to my glove box for my iPod but if I leave it connected all the time, sometimes when I start up the truck my bluetooth pairing to my phone and the Sync system will not work, can't even get the ladies voice to come on. Read up on it and it seems like its a problem with just the 2011's. Just wondering if you have experienced this?

lots of other threads on SYNC, .. in my experience, up to 8gig, sync can read it ok.. I did the USB2 deal with a 250Gig HD and on a longish trip, sync did ok, but normal in-town stuff, it was too much data and SYNC kept locking up. I think smaller is better for the SyNC.... and too.. unplug the USB drive when get where you're going...

I would not recommend using a HD, it will not last very long as most arent really designed for the amount of bumps and vibrations it will have bouncing around in your truck. Best to use a flash drive, or a solid state HD if you really need that much space. I find that the more songs you have on a drive the slower and worse sync is at recognizing and playing what you want, I use an 4 gig drive myself with no problems at all, have a couple more 4 gig drives as well that I rotate around as I add new music.

I am using a 120GB WD passport HDD formatted to FAT32, it holds everything. I have it stashed in the center console plugged in all the time. As for bouncing causinng trouble with the HDD, I did notice that ne of my playlists broke last week.
