Default Upgrading to tow mirrors

I have a 2009 XLT and ordered the big tow mirrors from Tasca. They came yesterday and I am planning on installing tonight. The guy at Tasca assured me they will plug right up.

My XLT does not have heated mirrors or the puddle lights - but the only tow mirrors Tasca had inlcuded both along with the turn signal (which of course I have now).

Assuming the Tasca guy is correct and it plugs right up, is there any chance the puddle lights will work or do I need to do something else to get them to work?

Is there a way to "activiate" the heated mirrors?

I did pretty much did the same as you are getting ready to do and my puddle lights don't work. I'm sure they can be hooked up but to be honest I really don't care about having the puddle lights. I just wanted the big mirrors (coming down from a Super Duty) that I was used to before. As far as the heated part I would be interested in getting that working but the way I understand it, if you don't have the rear defroster to start with you're out of luck.

the harnesses on the XLT (mine anyways) have a purple wire that controls the puddle lights. It should be plug in play for you since the mirrors have puddle lights allready in them.

I recently put puddle lights in my XLT mirrors and ran a wire through the mirror to the puddle lamp aperature and purchased the lamps. I tapped in to the purple wire. (says violet on wiring diagram)

Well that was easy!

Changed both of them in less than an hour - and the puddle lights work! Nice surprise there too.

Don't have a link but here are the part numbers :

7L3Z17683AE Black Left - W/trailer tow, w/heat 2009
7L3Z17682AE Black Right - W/trailer tow, w/heat 2009

Yea you're probablly right.

My truck is an XLT but it had the regular black mirrors without turn signals and no heat, they didn't even have the amber reflector on the front side. So I assume that's why the puddle lights don't work.
