I'm glad someone posted this (for discussion sake) since AK requested the other thread to be closed.

I'm surprised and disappointed with the chevy 6.2L. I thought it would at least match the EB in terms of dragging that trailer uphill. Reminds me of towing with my old 5.3 Z71. OD was useless with most trailers so it was 3rd gear and slow way down when you hit a hill, downshift to 2nd then wind it out past 5k, shift back to 3rd, slow way down, downshift to 2nd, wind it out, repeat until you get over the top of the hill. Usually, I'd just downshift to 2nd manually and modulate the throttle.

There are a couple of things I wish the F150 was better at. Engine braking is pretty much non-existent with the EB. The steering seems a little too sensitive when towing. Slow it down just a notch.

For the record, I'd like to see the following vehicles on future episodes:

1. 2014 5.7 tundra
2. 6.2L max-tow F150
3. 5.0L F150
4. 6.2L super duty
5. 2014 2500 Ram with the big hemi

I also wish the TFL team could figure out the brake controller.

Hopefully we can keep the discourse civil and the thread open.

the results are fully what I expected. At 10,000ft, the 6.2 has lost 30% of it's hp and torque(from 420/460 down to 294/322) and since that was the starting elevation, it just got worse as they climbed. Yes, if the tranny shifted better it would have made a better showing.

At least in all three cases they let the tranny shift the way the manufacturer programmed it. These trucks are not just an engine, they are a complete system and not all people are willing to manually shift the tranny when in tow/haul mode on a truck rated to tow 11,800lbs. Honestly, they shouldn't have to.

Due to the editing of the video, I'm not sure the EB was in tow/haul mode on the downhill so it may have had no engine braking at all on the way down (not that it has all that much available) in addition to insufficient trailer brake gain. My 8000lb trailer needs the gain at almost 8.

And once again, the EB was limited by traffic on most of the climb, not engine power.

I find it amusing that they are always seem to be talking down the Eco and making excuses for the 6.2. I think they were surprised by the results.

I wonder what gear ratio the EB had --- did they say? It did not have the Max Tow package, or it might have even done better.
The GM 6.2 was an embarassment, considering its specs! Down to 45 mph before it would downshift? Just stupid slow....this whole test goes to show that the EB, with the turbos spooled, gives you the power of a 7.0 liter engine! Way to go EB!

I believe that one has always been 3.73 (they said it is the same truck used in the first test)

Perhaps I should send them my max tow truck to retest with.

And I'm almost 100% sure the engine braking on the F150 is activated by tapping on the brakes while in tow/haul mode.

Both trucks had 3.73 rear axles. Also, if you look at the specs of the GM 6L80 transmission, you will find that it has almost identical ratios as Ford's 6R80 in every gear.

Sorry guys for clossing that last thread. Believe me, I didn't want to do it, but I didn't see it ever ending otherwise. I was hoping that someone would start another and glad that they did.

I really wish the 6.2 had been run first. I think it would have been all praise for how much better it was doing compared to the Nissan and there may have been silence during the Eco run. I really think they were hoping for something to trump the Eco and I don't think thats going to happen on this particular climb without boost.

Is this the fast lane truck channel right? Vids wont load. I hate them. They make bull**** excuses to talk down ford. Like for instance they said the bed was too deep. They even explained it ford made it like that to be able to hold more in the bed. But they said it was bad cuz they had a harder time reaching over and touching the bottom of the bed. Psh not fords fault your *** is short.

I agree with them on the bed thing. The bed is all but unusable without a step or climbing in it. But I think dodge is to Blame with that.
