Under bumper back up lights
How are you guys wiring them?
My V-Led license plate back up light broke. The plastic lens fell off awhile ago and the salt finally got to it. I picked up a cheap set of lights from Autozone but every time I put it in reverse the lights won't come one with the auxillary lights hooked up. I unhook them then the stock reverse lights will come on (but only after cycling the key on/off.
My LED's worked fine the way I had them hooked up, but these draw a lot more power so just wondering how you guys are hooking them up?

I bought a pair of SRM Hybrid Diffused 90251 lights for back ups. Haven't installed them yet but I will activate them with an in cab switch as I won't need them to come on every time I back up.
Even though they are low amp lights, I'm still isolating them and running them through a relay located under the hood, and then running the hot wire along the frame to the rear lights.

My guess would be too much juice. I picked up a wire harness from Starkey Products that pulls power from the battery and has a relay. Like Old Smokey I will be picking up a set of SRM Rigid lights for lighting.

I got Bully brand back up lights wired them to a three way switch.
Goes on when put in reverse
switch them on, to set up my tent or load the bed in the dark
shut them off altogether.

I wire tapped mine into the center wire on the 7 pin trailer wiring. No issues for over a year, with or without a trailer hooked up. I initially used scotch locks, but eventually soldered the connection and covered with waterproof splice tape.

Just went out and tried it and it works. That is what I am going to use.
Thanks for the reply!

i bought some pia lights, cut the switch off, made my own harness out of 10 gauge wires, raped them in corrugated protection and routed it under and along the side of the truck. when i back up, the lights turn on. i have a fuse at the battery (from the original pia harness) and the signal is connected to one of the rear tail lights.
if i need the lights on when i'm hooking up a trailer, i just turn off the truck and put it in reverse (with the parking break on) to see what i'm doing. it works well.
i didn't want a switch because i worried about (identically) turning them on while driving down the highway.
hope this helps.
