I unsoldered the speaker & soldered a switch leg to the circuitboard and ran the wire out to my switch. That part is all good and it works. GREAT!

But I put it all back together and my Speedo needle doesn't move and the tach is wrong. But all else seems to work including the odometer. See my request for assistance thread here: https://www.f150forum.com/f38/need-h...7/#post4272576

Talked to LOTs of speedo experts over the last couple days and they all say these clusters are fragile, and you can easily mess it up. Used eBay clusters are $70-150 but you're stuck with that odometer reading, which will not match the odometer reading thats inside your ECM. I get the impression that the dealer COULD reprogram a used cluster because they have to input all the settings and miles to a new unit. But they say they can't reprogram a used one. I bet they can,,,,,, but have to say that so you think your cluster's odometer value is sacred.

My truck's under warranty so I can't have odometer discrepancies, need the dealer to do it their way. New cluster is $433 and minimum shop charge $115 so I'm looking at $550+.

Be careful,,,,,

Sorry I didn't see your post in time, I would have told you whoa, don't remove the needles, I had a cluster I bought off of ebay to play with and saw that you could mess it up quick by removing the needles. I remove the back and with a small set of side cutters, slowly nipped away at the speaker until I saw the two wires and I can go back later and solder them if/when I trade the truck in. That is about the same quote I got for replacing the cluster.

I didnt remove the needles, but I did rotate them, thinking the system would do a sweep and put them back where they belong. The temp and fuel etc at top do sweep and reset themselves, but the tach and speedo are not working. I think I messed up something else in my surgery. Repair tech said it's very fragile, if you just drop it, it can be trash.
