Generally people won't come to forum and say "Hey I thought everyone should know my truck now has 40K on it and is problem-free. Thanks!".

People will come to seek assistance in resolving an issue more often than not which will foster an unrealistic perception in regards to the ratio of trucks without problems to trucks with problems. The latter being heavily exaggerated.

You've made the right choice and chances are you'll have nothing to worry about.

I disagree, this forum is a small fraction of ford truck owners. the majority of these 600,000 F150 owners don't come to a forum to express happiness or disgust. The amount of the bad F150 eco issues is warrant enough to have a recall. They just dont know how to fix the issue. If you watch all the ford videos about the ecoboost this engine should be as reliable as the Honda accord. Its not and those that have issues arent comforted by the guys who want to down play there issues by saying its only 1-2% of the trucks, BS. There is a wider problem with the Eco, it stretches up to Canada down to Texas. Be real, it is the luck of the draw whether YOUR Ecoboost engine will have any issues. Every manufacturer uses the public as guinea pigs and sells the marketing hype. Ford needs to man up and take care of there loyal followers that put them No.1 and correct the issues and stop putting patches on the bleeding. Its easy to for guys to laugh at the issues if there truck has no problems. This issue will devalue all our trucks unless Ford comes out with a permanent fix. Who do you think is gonna buy a Eco 5 years from now if they dont step up and fix the problems. Start the bashing all you want but you will sing another tune the first time your truck starts to shudder, or clunk, or lose power or engine light comes on and any other issue that makes you waste time at the dealership.

Really?? I thought there was a fix but the newly designed intercooler was on backorder.

My 2010 5.4 Lariat Screw is still running strong. We are at the dealer now for a 30,000 mile service and oil change at 37,000 miles. Other than some grooves in my brake rotors I haven't a any issues. Good luck with your new truck.

Has the F150 lost its way or is this forum fodder where you hear from the 50 and not the thousands who love their trucks??
KBallard72,

Congratulations on the new truck purchase. Keep in mind that these trucks have thousands of individual parts, some of which are purchased from other manufacturers. Even if the defect rate of each of the individual components is as low as 1 in 10,000, there is still a chance (possibly as high as 1 in 3 when adding the individual failure rate probabilities) that your vehicle will exhibit an issue from one of the rarely defective parts.

The above seems like a high percentage of potential failure. It may seem that there are a lot of people on this forum reporting issues with their trucks. These problem reports (along with their solutions when reported) help other owners who are experiencing similar issues. Once the problems are corrected, people can go back to enjoying (or loving) their now problem free vehicles.

Has the quality of the vehicles declined, or are there just more individual parts in the modern trucks, each with an individual component failure rate as low as 1 in 10,000? I think that the latter is the case.

Let's compare my trucks:
* 1979 F-150 with the bullet proof 300 cubic inch inline 6 cylinder: engine failure at roughly 68,000 miles (probably due to a faulty oil pump) and had to be rebuilt, 13 MPG, two broken leaf springs on the driver's side within the first 5 years, engine stalling a bit too frequently in the first 68,000 miles and losing 1 quart of oil a day, latch on the rear slider window broke when the truck was 10 years old, frame rusted badly when the truck was 14-15 years old - leaning on the rear bumper caused one of the bumper mounts to fail and one of the welds holding the driver's side front wheel in position snapped, radiator problems several times over the truck's lifetime, several brake line failures an u-joint failures. That truck was on the road for just over 18 years - a simple truck with few parts compared to modern trucks.

* 1994 F-150 with a 302 cubic inch 8 cylinder: no engine failure in 130,000 miles, usually averaged close to 20 MPG (I think with 3.08 gears in the rear), refused to start one day at about 78,000 miles - spark plugs had to be replaced, left turn signal stopped working along with cruise control and the air bag light started flashing one day (I suspect that an animal was chewing on wires), radiator losing coolant at about 105,000 miles, transmission problems at about 120,000 miles where the truck had difficulty shifting into overdrive, brake line failure at about 132,000.

* 2004 F-150 with 5.4 liter 8 cylinder: no engine failure in 63,000 miles, had a high average of 18.3 MPG (although it has averaged just over 14 MPG for the last year), rear limited slip clutch failure at about 20,000 miles (I knew what this was due to other people on forums reporting similar problems), repeated rear limited slip clutch problems at 35,600 miles (just added friction modifier to the rear end as mentioned on a forum), battery failure at 48,000 miles that forced me to walk 6 miles to work one day, brake dragging/grinding problem on passenger side rear at about 44,000 miles, brake dragging problem on the driver's side front - finally fixed at 61,000 miles.

* 2013 F-150 5.0 liter (302 cubic inch) 8 cylinder: faulty door latch on driver's side requiring 2 handle pulls to open, MyFord Touch system with A3 map card that did not respond at times. Both of those issues were corrected in the first 2 weeks of ownership. Now I just have to figure out how to get rid of the stupid ear to ear grin every time I touch the gas pedal, hearing the echoes of the 5.0 Mustang that is put away for the winter.

The point is that most vehicles will have some sort of problem over their lifetime. Forums like this one help owners address those problems so that the stupid ear to ear grin returns quickly.

Have to remember, people with an axe to grind will yell the loudest. I bought my used FX4, and after test driving a pile of new cars with the wife recently, I can't believe how ****ty the build quality is on a vehicle that cost 10000 more than my used truck, and is close to the same price as a new truck. These things are built great, they run great, they do everything they are designed to do great, they look great. Despite what people say, the competition build great trucks too. That in itself is great for us. The tougher the competition the better the product.

My only complaint with my truck is not buying it sooner. Seriously. It has exceeded my expectations in every way imaginable. Some may have issues, yet I have not. Excellent economy, comfort and value. Absolutely no regrets.

I may have a complaint here or there. But, I had an 05 supercrew fx4 then a10 fx4 and now a 13 fx4. I can't say anything other than they get better with each model. In fact I currently have myself and 5 friends with an 11 or newer F150, worry not you will enjoy.

Geez man, don't be such a downer.
There is very little wrong with the Eco engine, it's the wrong intercooler they put in the truck. And they are fixing it!
