Default Tunes for Driving in Winter Conditions

Has anyone had issues with their custom tunes when driving on snowy/icy roads? I live in Montana, where the roads are often snowy/icy about four months out of the year. Do either Five Star or MPT offer tunes that are customized for these conditions? Is there a tune that you've used that is optimum for these conditions?

I would bet that if you speak to those dealers they can tell you if they can make a special tune for those conditions. I would guess that they can.

Thanks! I spoke with both shortly after posting: Five Star said they would discuss it and get back to me on customizing a tune for winter driving. MPT recommended either running an economy tune or reverting to stock--neither option sounds very appealing to me. Hopefully Five Star will come up with something specifically geared for winter driving.

What exactly are you looking to gain from a tune that would help you in winter conditions? Are you new to driving in those conditions?

So what aspect of the tune would you change to make it more friendly in the colder months? Numb out the throttle?

If you don't want economy or stock... there's not much more you can do for your situation. I'd suggest stock. If you're relying on tunes to make better your winter driving, you should go back to the stock slug tune and get more experience driving in the snow.

Not sure how to tune could make winter driving, better or worse. Don't set the cruise and put it in manual mode so the truck doesn't shift unexpectedly when icy.

Thanks for the responses. I think my lack of experience with tuning is showing. I just wasn't sure if there was anything a tune could do, good or bad, that would affect driving on snow/ice. From the replies, it sounds like a performance tune may not make it any worse and no tune may make it easier. For the record, I moved up to Montana from Texas about 5 years ago. So, I have decent experience driving on snow and ice but not as much as others.

I think what you're REALLY seeking, in terms of electronic winter conditions support, is good traction control, which a tune can't give you.

If you're driving on ice/snow on a regular basis, I'd look into dedicated snow tires. That will make the biggest difference for you.
