Question Tuner suggestions

I have a 2011 f150 4 inch Rancho Lift with 35x12.50x18 3.73 gear ratio. I'm looking for a decent tuner, Basically I want my setup calibrated properly, A lot of people have been telling me i don't want a tuner unless its one that has a display that reads whats happening. I've never had a tuner so I'm pretty new to it. I would appreciate any suggestion. Thanks.

That's what i was looking for with custom tunes from mike at 5 star, but people I've talked to say that SCT are not any good. but from what I've read on here that's what a ton of people use.

I was in the same boat. I didn't want a tuner to sit in my truck and look cool. I wanted it to simply calibrate my speedo, restore power and gas mileage. I went with an SCT tuner and a customer tune from Erick at Leading Edge Tuning. He was great to deal with and took care of everythign for me. He has you fill out a form with your truck specs and what you are trying to achieve. I went with the older x3 version and it worked great. I think the new version of the sct gives you more bells and whistles though, if you wanted that in truck "gauge" look.

Not sure who you are talking to. I would say the SCT brand is probably the most versatile and sought after tuner out there. At least for our trucks.

I'm not sure who you have talked to, but most would say that SCT is great. They offer the canned tunes, but also offer the ability to do the custom tuning, data logging, gauge display, etc etc. As far as Ford vehicles are concerned, SCT is pretty much as good as it gets.

You also have the ability to choose any tuning company you want and they can provide the tunes so you don't have to buy "their tuner". Most tuners that do anything for Ford vehicles will know how to tune w/ the SCT.

When I was looking to tune, I tried Hypertech and felt it didn't do anything for me, so I sent it back as part of their 30 day trial. I tried the SCT and the adjustable options alone were worth the money. I drove around on a SCT tune for a while and felt it was a better "canned" tune than Hypertech and SCT's support was great (4 years ago). I called in last week and they were still quite helpful, but not as friendly as the guy I originally had. Slapped 5 star and PHP tunes to my SCT and O-M-G....the truck is a beast.

Well I appreciate all the input but so you guys think if i bought a SCT tuner used for half the price I would be okay? or is buying a tuner better to just buy a new one. because I would like 5 star tuning custom tunes. and I'm sure that's something you have to buy separate right?

You might be better off just buying a new one directly through 5 Star or Stage 3. 5 Star charges $200 for 3 email tunes. Buy a brand new X4 and you'll get 5 custom tunes included for something right around $430. Buy from Stage 3, and you get the 5 custom tunes PLUS free lifetime tunes. That's what I did and it seems to be the best deal for the money.

if you can find a used tuner make sure its unmarried otherwise you ahve to pay $150 to get it unlocked. Then you can get custom tuning from a multitude of vendors. I went MPT and they went above and beyond for me just last weekend. It may be cheaper to just get the tuner + custom tune package through them. Most offer a forum discount.
