I might just pay the $20 to motorcraft to see the TSB for now so I have something to go on... I pulled out my records and they have never even re-programmed the computer. I truly think id be better off with a FullRace intercooler livernois tune and new plugs but the warranty issues with a 60k+ MSRP truck scare me
Phone customer care and complain about this dealer. Don't know if it helps but worth a try.
I've been reporting to my dealer for quite a while about the shudder. I've never had the loss of power/ limp mode issue though. He was never able to fully replicate either. They ordered the new CAC anyway and I had it installed last week. So far, seems to have worked.
It sucks you may have to go two hours away but maybe if you call the other dealers and explain, they might be willing to help.
Oh, I'm in Ontario and just deal with a small town dealership.

Freeze frame data is the recordings the PCM takes when the code is thrown lets us see what was happening at that exact koment

So when you get that flashing CEL its not storing a code correct? because they could not read it before. SO for this TSB its saying the need to replicate the problem to replace the CAC which to me only happens in the perfect conditions and some times wont even flash a CEL

  1. Is the misfire concern only repeatable in humid or damp conditions?
    1. Yes - proceed to Step 4
    2. No - this article does not apply. Refer to Powertrain Control Emission Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual Section 3: Powertrain Symptom Index to inspect such areas as Ignition, Compression, and Injection.
  2. Does the Misfire Freeze Frame Data indicate engine speed above 2500 RPM and load 100% or above? (Figure 1)
    a.Yes - proceed to Step 5
b.No - this article does not apply. Refer to PC/ED Manual Section 3: Powertrain Symptom Index to inspect such areas as Ignition, Compression, and Injection.

I never had a code stay on until many limp modes and then it was another 4k later that the code came on and the replaced the left bank cat and and O2 sensor.
I KNOW its the CAC issue the first time it happened I was driving from Ontario to Manitoba it was a hot humid rainy day on the interstate doing about 120km an hour with cruise on for about 4 hours and I went to pass and it just died. It did this continually that day several times. And still happens on a long 2hr drive but if its not humid and damp its more of a shudder like you are going over rumble strips. But no codes so if Im reading this right no CAC for me

So the big question here is what will be different about the "V" version of the CAC?

My truck is getting the 12-10-29 TSB right now, they won't replace the CAC unless it shows the codes for that level of the TSB. I'm getting the the new catalytic converter (CC) but that is it.

So what caused the CC needing to be replaced?

Did a misfire toast the CC?

my dealership just can't give me answers they only follow the codes shown and do the work, they can't explain or help me understand anything.

Cheers,
GREG
