Trucks aren't trucks anymore

Yeah, my opinion is sunroofs don't belong in trucks, but I'm not buying platinum level trucks either, XLT for me.
Anyway, don't get down of Ford about the drain tubes, that is a problem on any car/truck with a sunroof. It's a maintenance item that no one knows about and does a lot of damage when it happens. I come from Audi's and when those clog your foot wells flood. A supplier of mine just recently told me his wife's R-class Mercedes had clogged sunroof tubs and the passenger footwell flooded. What does Mercedes put in the passenger foot well? The computer. So that fried. His insurance totaled the car. They told him with water and electrical components, issues can and will pop up 6 months or more down the road when things corrode and they will be paying out repairs for years. They said now they just total the car and it's cheaper in the long run. Go figure.

Wow take about a crappy design. Guess I'll be expecting problems down the road. I should have kept looking for one with out the sunroof.

My base xlt is a truck that is in the fields everyday hauling bales and equipment. I hunt and fish with it and even removed the back seats so my mastiffs have more room. All of my "farmer" buddies with their platinums and limiteds are alway at the dealership fixing things that don't belong on a truck.
My girl has a nice car with all the creature comforts so if that's what you want/need in a truck well maybe you bought a truck hoping it would improve your image. And beliveme in oil country we see that all the time.
Example, nice 1ton diesel you got there, what that cost?
75g
Wow what you pull with it?
Nothin
Oh I see
Then they complain about the cost of ownership and the price of diesel
End of my rant

My first truck was an 89 F-250. That was a true truck. No frills, bells, whistles, or other creature comforts. Just iron, horse power, and room to stick your arm into the engine compartment to do the work needed to keep the bastard running. However when I wanted to go on a date, or spend a weekend going someplace, I was asking my parents if I could borrow their car. (even if the back seat was much smaller than the bench in the truck)
Fast forward 20 years and we want different things from our trucks. They dont have to be just for work, but can cover a variety of needs. You can still get the most basic single cab XL and avoid a lot of issues. But you may still need a 4 door vehicle to haul the family to the store. Or you can get the Platinum with all the extras and ride in style. But you may not want to risk denting/scratching that $55,000 pavement queen by taking it into the woods to cut down a tree.
Many people I see get the later so as to fit the image of a truck driver, but they pay for it. Same with many Harley owners I see that spent $30,000 + on their bike, another $5,000 on all the Harley gear, and then ride less than 500 miles a year.
However for most of us here, I think we got the nicer truck in order to get the best (or worse depending on your outlook) of both worlds. The ability to haul gear when it needs to, and still be comfortable for daily use. We sacrifice some of our "truckness" in this pursuit. I can no longer lay 8' sheets of plywood flat in the bed of my truck, but I can still put my bike in the bed if she breaks down. I can also bring 3 friends on a road trip comfortably, but I don't want to beat it up in a field like an old P.O.S.

Trucks are cars?

It's all advances in technology, engineering and to probably more of a degree everyone is just producing parts of cheaper quality than used to be back maybe even as recently as 10-12 years ago. I embrace much of the technology and things that have been incorporated into modern vehicles. You never would have seen 15 years ago a 5500lb. 4x4 with nearly 400 h.p. getting 18 to 20 something m.p.g.'s on the highway.
