When he chuckled and asked why he said if they find the keys were left in the vehicle the claim is denied. I'm in Canada tho, I might be different in the states.
I'm in ontario

In 30 years of driving I've never left them anywhere else and never "misplaced" them. Never had a need to leave one in my vehicle. It really isn't that hard to keep track of them.
You organized little bastard you

Because if you have you have the fastest pay out in the history of the human race.... And we all want your broker and company versus the jerkoffs the rest of us get stuck with that treat you like you are the criminal when something gets taken. Then you sit and wait for months until you get your money or they recover it and scab it back together. And yep definitely I must have stole it. There you go... case solved.. And at least i dont leave my keys in my truck on a residential street in an urban area after being broken into a short time prior....Best of luck.

Yeah, I was ok up until he said he had $300 stolen a few weeks earlier!

If insurance companies didn't pay for stupidity (OP used that word so I will too) as some here have implied then they wouldn't pay virtually anything but acts of god. Just saying...

Every vehicle I've ever owned had a spare key hidden in the magnetic case. I don't do that anymore because I haven't found one that fits this truck's key fob.
This is my 3rd vehicle with the keyless entry, but the first one I started hiding the key inside.
I know this much. Your "average" thief spends 3 to 7 minutes going through or stealing your ride. If you can find my key in under 20 minutes, I'll give you my truck. I have a hard time retrieving it in 10 minutes, and I know where it is.
If I lose my keys and my cell is with them, or out of range, or any scenario that would otherwise leave me stranded. Knowing I can drive out of there and get back home is worth having a very well hidden spare key, imo.
It doesn't bother me how many think it's a bad idea, because I'll be back home sitting in my comfortable chair and not walking back, wondering where the hell did I lose them.
Sorry to hear about your loss OMAC. That sinking feeling when you realize, your personal life has been violated really sucks.

Key here is a well hidden key! Something tells me it wasn't very well hid.
