Wyoming is usually pretty good in terms of overall taxes, but when it comes to vehicle registration it's not pretty.

However, the bulk of the money is a county fee and not a state fee. The state fee is a flat $25 ($35 for vehicles over 6,000 lbs I believe),but the county fee is % based on the valuation of the vehicle when new NOT what you paid for it and then depreciates over time. Year 1 was ~$850.00 and I just got my renewal for May and in year 2 it's ~$800.

They do this in MA as well (where i grew up) they call it an excise tax and its controlled by each town/city. Sucks!

Same here in North Carolina, I just paid $321.51 ($361 last year) for a 2012 2wd XLT SCREW, most of that is county and city taxes.

VA is bad enough with raising their car sales tax to 4% this year but the county I live in has a pretty awful Personal Property Tax that will probably be $1k or more for me with Truck and Motorcycle. :-(

$27 for registration in Arkansas. They charge you sales tax on new and used vehicles (first $4,000 is exempt on used cars) when you first register at the revenue office. Then every year you pay a property tax to the county a percentage of the current value of your vehicle. We get hit in other ways. LOL

$496.00 for my 2012 XLT scab 4X4 and $73.00 for my 1994 Silverado 1 ton here in Kansas. It goes down for depreciation until 12 years old then stays the same forever.

Ouch. Guys. Alberta renewal is like ~$80 for a year and ~$150 for 2. I never blink at them...

I actually just got mine in the mail today. $27.50 in Arkansas for the registration but then I have to have it appraised by a tax assessor and pay personal property tax. I don't remember what the tax is tho.
