I agree. The other thing is used they sell cheap. If I had an older truck I could of picked up a few in nice shape for around $500.

Thought about one of these - http://www.truckcandy.com/TC/Softopper/Softopper.htm not much for 'real' security but just to keep things dry and covered vs dealing with a tarp...

I installed a Leer 180 on my truck. It works great and was reasonably priced at $1600. I didn't have a bunch of options installed. I wanted the removable front window and an interior light. It came standard with sliding windows and screens. I was choosing between ARE but went with Leer because I liked the heavy duty rear frame and the dual locking handles which will be useful for farm use. I also opted for no liner because I want to be able to hose out the interior.

I bought an almost fully loaded Century High C w/the Outdoorsman package, paid more than what I wanted, but shopping for a bit everything was priced within ~$200, but the best deal was $2300 installed w/tax for all the options I wanted.
Lights front and back, however if you get light make sure you specify exactly how you want those powered. I got a front replaceable battery light and a rear hardwire light, but they hardwired it to my parking lights. Had I known that I would have gotten another replaceable battery type light, but now I will likely hardwire it up to the truck's battery. Rails for a THULE rack, pet screens, carpet lined, overhead interior storage, fishing rod holders, clothes hanger, front slide and pop out cab window.
I had a Raider on my 95 and that was a great topper. Had it for like 10 yrs with no issues. Unfortunately there wasn't a nearby Raider dealer otherwise I would have just went went another Raider. I paid ~$1200 for that one, but it only had one hardwired light, installed two more later and a front slide and drop down window. The drop down/pop out is nice for cleaning and keeping rearview visibility up.
Now one other thing, I had some road noise show up after having my topper installed - details and fix - https://www.f150forum.com/f38/excess...ll-add-183561/
I also added the 6" custom built bed box for other storage and such - http://bedslideoutdrawers.com/truck_bed_boxes.html

TAG only owns three fiberglass manufacturing companies. Leer, Century, and Raider are it. They do NOT own A.R.E., Snug, or any other fiberglass company.

A cap is perfect for what your going to be doing, add a bed rug and you're golden.
Man where did you buy yours. I was quoted 1895 for the base ARE Z series. 355.00 for the roof rack system and 100 bucks for a fold down window. Then the guy told me there was going to be a 3% price increase January 3. Also none of that includes tax. I'd be at a 2600.00 topper easy.

That looks great.
Just ordered the same Leer Canopy with auto lock, also getting the bedrug put in, wheel well storage box and led lights as I read the dome light is not the best. Read quite a few reviews on here about Leer and ARE and really it was the dealer experience that made me choose the Leer as I do not think there are a lot of differences, also when I left the ARE dealer store I noticed on his truck the trim at the base of the Canopy was hanging off, not a great sales feature.
I am going to miss the look without the canopy but it is the most practical option for me and the family.
Do you have the step on the tailgate and if so is the lid of the canopy beefed up to go over the top?

I even called the local states that have no sales tax and I'm getting the same exact pricing so, there is something definitely going on with pricing. I had an ARE on my last truck, 05 Dodge, and I only paid $1700, loved it, did have the plastic latch handle break on me twice, which ARE replaced once for free and the other time I paid for. I like the looks of both the ARE and Leer but, Seems like the pricing on these things is crazy.
What dealers have you tried? Leer in woodland is about 50 miles from me too. I am in Stockton and my local dealer is Dentoni's. You may want to give them a try. Where are you located?

I am happy with my Leer. Around here the ARE is not as prevalent and parts and service would have taken longer if something needs to be looked at. But very happy with the Leer and it is great putting stuff in the back and not hvaing to worry about the elements or getting blown out
