Truck App -Off Road- Pitch/Angle & Turning Screen Issue

I read your post before I left for work today so I figured I'd try mine out on the highway. The highway on my way to work is really flat for pitch, but has a crown so each lane has a little bit of a roll angle. The roll angle seemed pretty accurate (1 to 3 degrees) and the pitch angle was right at zero. I was only going about 60 (people in Washington don't like to speed.....crazy). But my guess is that this is more affected by acceleration than speed. So I tried accelerating and decelerating on on the highway and it had no effect, but I was on level ground where I wouldn't think it would affect the reading. It probably just gets messed up when accelerating/decelerating up a hill. For the sake of science, I'll go find a big hill and accelerate at full throttle and see what happens.

I've tried accelerating and decelerating up and down a pretty steep hill several times. I've ended up at speeds anywhere from 30 to 70 mph. Luckily, either the local cops haven't caught me or they're members of f150forum and they knew I was testing the Offroad app. I've found that no matter what I do I get an accurate reading of pitch angle. The road is perfectly flat for roll though, so maybe the OP was right and roll angle affects the reading.

I agree that it was designed for off road speeds. Not to discount this app, but if you've ever done any serious four wheeling you will know that these pitch and angle readings are absolutely worthless. There's so many variables to take in to account that there's no finite angle that anyone could say will cause the truck the flop or endo. How do you know what that angle is? You have to flop it to know. And even then what the max is sitting stationary is different than when moving. I can have something right on the edge sitting still, but if I was moving and then hit the brake it would go over. They're neat, but a gimmick.

Aren't these same sensors used with the trailer brake controller so that when going downhill if you hit the brake pedal twice your truck will use a lower grade to compress to help you brake ??? Why speed be an issue with those type of sensors ???? Just trying to troubleshoot !!

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but I could not find anything closer. I just noticed my steering wheel angle no longer works in the truck app. I made an appointment for tomorrow, but was wondering if anyone knows where there is a sensor for this. I thought maybe I knocked something off in all the snow, or if it gets the angle from the steering wheel in the cab.

Speed of truck has no effect, and has always read accurately regardless of speed. If I hit a 3% grade, it reads 17 or 18%.
Something is definitely wrong with mine. I have 6480 miles on my truck, and it appears the feature started acting weird as of today.
I took it to the dealer, as they thought it may be a simple re-set or flash, but the tech said it could be more involved procedure to diagnose or access the sensor than my Service advisor initially thought.
I know it seems like such a pointless feature or gimmick, but it bugs me I have or paid for something on my new truck that doesn't work correctly. I had a 2011 F-150 with the same feature, so I am well aware of how it's supposed to function normally.
Sucks because my dealer says I can't get a loaner to drop truck off for further diagnostics because I didn't buy their Ford ESP extra warranty. That's BS as I thought when you buy a $52,300 F-150, you get the red carpet treatment. I don't expect this from Ford, but I'm sure you guys get what I'm saying.
Was also wondering if the OP ever fixed theirs? This thread looks like it died off, with no resolution on the issue.
If anyone knows where the inertia sensors for this feature is located, I would love to know.

Also, does anyone know where the sensor for the off road app features are in the truck?
Is it under the truck, where something could fly up from the tire while driving or easily be knocked lose or hit when off road driving?

Probably the steering column control module, and it's located on the column inside the truck.

Mine has always been pretty Accurate ate highway speed!

I too appogize for bringing up an old thread. My 3/ month old, 2013, FX4, EcoBoost's pitch/ angle read out in the trucks "Off-Road" app appears to be stuck in the nose down position, reading 6% down hill when on perfectly level ground.
