To answer a bunch of posts, no... I don't have auto-headlights. From my understanding, to add the function to my truck would include two modules, a light sensor and requiring my ecu to get flashed... all for auto-headlights.
packplantpath - You're completely correct. One more time and I'll be way past having to deal with this issue.

My truck being stuck in 5th is far past me. The fact that it did it each time due to the same root issue really confuses me. I start it up and it goes to fifth when I put it in D or select shift. It won't let me change gears on my own either. Only after I turn off the engine and restart it, will it let me go through my normal drive selection. Very weird situation. My 2002 Ram had an auto-head light off mechanism.

According to our manual, you can program the time-off setting, but only if you have the auto-headlight feature.

I back my truck into my garage every night, and when I do, I turn off my lights so my lights don't flash into my neighbor's houses. I leave the parking lights on so other cars at least have an idea where my truck is. With that said, I am just turning my lights off completely.. don't have time anymore to jump start my truck.

Your sir are a member of the exclusive 5% club. The 5% club contains the diminishing number of intelligent mindful people in the world who I would have no problem being around.

I had to turn off my truck and restart it to clear the issue...

I thought it was a fluke, but last night, I left my parking lights on. I walked out to my pickup this morning running late to work only to have a dead battery. After jumping it, I had it do the same thing... get stuck in 5th gear.

Has this issue happened to anyone else? I don't have auto headlights, but I wish the ECU realized, "Hey, he left his parking lights on for more than 1 minute and the truck's off... maybe I should automatically turn them off." Oh well.
Check out this TSB from last month. It's for your transmission engaging in 5th gear when starting.

I have this exact issue. Where did you find this document? I'm looking for a site with a list of ALL TSBs...I found one here but they are not in .pdf format.

Default Same here

I know I'm a little late to the post. But I just ran into the SAME issue last night! Working late and left my running lights on a bit to long to power my trailer lights. I got in my truck to head home, turn the key, and was answered with a bunch of loud erratic clicking. Nothing like the typical faint click that a key turn with a dead battery has given me with other trucks.
Anyway, AAA showed up. Gave me a jump. I start to drive away and realize that I'm in 5th gear!?! Nothing alleviated the problem other than restarting the truck! I also have an STX and my lights do not have an auto setting. But they will turn off after about an hour if I leave them on.

I watch for people on here mentioning TSB's (If they might affect my truck) and if they give a number, especially when it's newer. Then I do a google search with "ford tsb xx-xx-xx" for example. Ford recently changed that format I think, but if it's a valid number I seem to find them when they are fresh. I save the PDF if available, because it seems like they sometimes get taken down from sites rather quickly.
On this TSB, it was superseded after I attached the PDF to "tsb 13-04-09". I posted that to some other thread. Looking it up today I see they superseded it again to "tsb 13-06-08" so I attached that.

I'm actually running into this very issue with my 2012 FX-2 with 5.0L - started up in 1st, jumped to 5th. No lights, no codes, and it took a restart to get the issue to go away. Happened once on Saturday and once on Sunday. I took it to the dealer on Monday, explained the exact issue and the existence of this TSB, but they wouldn't fix it since they were not able to repeat the issue.

Filed a complaint with Ford's general warranty number to get this escalated. Normally wouldn't do that, but given that it's a drivetrain issue, it makes me a little more nervous to be driving around with a known issue that isn't fixed because the dealer wasn't able to repeat it over a 2 day period. Plus I'm forced to pay for a rent car while a dealer drives my truck around trying to notice an issue that they just can't repeat, despite it happening to me twice in the two days prior to taking it in.

Default Anyone tried the TSB?

We are having the same problem. My husband jumped my van battery and then his truck started doing this but it won’t reset if he turns it off and back on. He’s not driving it and it’s killing us! We have too many kids and too many jobs to have one vehicle. The TSB said to replace the molded leadframe…if it’s something we can do ourselves, we want to. Has anyone tried it and had it fix the problem?

Depending upon your mechanical abilities and availability of necessary equipement, it's doable. And yes, a few have.
