Exclamation Transmission Issues

Hi guys,

I don't know if this has been discussed before, my truck loses power, transmission keeps shifting up/down. I took it to a Ford dealer, they said i need to change the 3rd spark plug, i changed them all at a mechanic shop since i was at it. The problem seemed to be solved for 3-4 months, but now it started all over again, and even worse. No matter what speed i'm driving. On highway, doing 70mph, suddenly it downshifted to 1!! the RPM hit the roof, the speedometer kept going back and forth. In a few moments the truck started to shake and stepping on the gas pedal seemed liked its doing nothing. Thank god i could safely pull over, turn off/on the truck, it was drivable. Few miles later same thing happend and a big yellow wrench light came on. I checked for codes and there is none What is going on?! That was a scary experience, although it wasn't the first time it happens.

I would bet its the lead frame that is causing it. Had this happen to mine. Look up molded lead frame on here and you can find a bunch of info on it. There is also a TSB issued for this problem I don't remember what number it was though.

sounds like the lead frame recall needs to be applied. Its a safety recall now, 16n02:

Ford F-150, Ford Expedition, Ford Mustang and Lincoln Navigator transmission issue
The Dearborn automaker has issued a safety recall for the 2011-2012 Ford F-150, and 2012 Ford Expedition, Ford Mustang and Lincoln Navigator for a potential problem with the output speed sensor in the transmission's lead frame.

The company said that in certain conditions the part can lead to a temporary downshift into first gear. Depending on how fast the vehicle is going, that could lead to an abrupt reduction in speed that could cause the rear tires to slide or lock up.

Ford said it's aware of three accidents reported and no injuries related to the issue.

The affected vehicles have a 6R80 transmission in certain Ford F-150s built at Dearborn Assembly Plant and Kansas City Assembly Plant, Aug. 19, 2011 through March 9, 2012; 2012 Ford Expedition vehicles built at Kentucky Truck Plant, Aug. 19, 2011 through Dec. 19, 2011; Ford Mustang vehicles built at Flat Rock Assembly Plant, Aug. 19, 2011 through Feb. 21, 2012; and Lincoln Navigator vehicles built at Kentucky Truck Plant, Aug. 19, 2011 through Dec. 17, 2011.

wow, thanks guys!! My truck is branded Rebuilt due to hail damage; i heard some horror stories of dealers not honoring the warranty nor the recalls for salvaged/rebuilt vehicles. how accurate is that?

Read the document ! Technically it is not a "safety recall". It is a Customer Satisfaction Program. For whatever reason, it does not typically show up in OASIS so they might try to charge you for it.

I highly recommend that you print out the document and demand to see the Service Manager if the Service Writer starts to give you the run around.

Unluckily, your 2013 is not part of the recall.

Has anyone tried driving in manual mode with any problems with the lead frame problem?
