Different animal with different maintenance standards. But actually, I do that. Oil filter is changed every 3.5-4k, complete oil change every 7-8k. My oil filter is changed twice for every oil change cycle.

@Rnlcomp What do you think of this technique ?

You can watch from minute 2:00 to 5:00 and 10:30 to 12:30 if you want to go straight to the point

Pretty slick method, but 4 gallons of Mercon LV is gonna run about $160 and I believe this method only flushes the pan and fluid in the cooler though... I'll stick with $40/5 qts (eBay) and a $21 Motorcraft filter (eBay).

I did my pan drop and filter change today at 35k miles. Paid 6 dollars a quart taxes included for ford mercon lv and 30 for the filter at the dealership. Fluid did not look good for low mileage but the magnet had very little metal shaving.

removed 6qts (measured) and put back 6.5. Siphon pump made dropping the pan a no mess deal.

That looks pretty good if you ask me. Barely changed color. It probably was that color after 5000 miles, because it changes pretty quick.

It ain't the miles, it is all about heat. If you don't tow regularly, and only lighter loads when you do, then you can probably NEVER change the AT fluid. Especially if you never let the AT fluid get much over 200 degrees. The more time you spend over 210 degrees the sooner you need to change it. Ever let it get up to 230-240 degrees and you need to change it ASAP even if it was only done last week.

Weird, my 05’ wasn’t even that dark at 100k. I think the light color of the pan makes the fluid look better than it actually was, when I poured it into a clear measuring cup it looked almost black. But I tow a lot so I’m not too worried.

i tow my 6k loaded camper a lot (probably 10k miles so far) which is the reason I decided to go ahead and change it.

Sounds like a good idea considering your usage. Totally agree with marshallr.

I guess I’m due for a trans service, since I’m at 110k on the clock. Had the rear diff serviced at the last oil change a few thousand miles ago.
