Transmission dipstick?

If you want to fill it cold(less risk of burns from the cat). Fill till it's in the A range then run it till it warms up and recheck it. Now it should be in the B range. Remember the thermo valve doesn't open till 180 - 190 degf range so it's going to take some driving to get there.

I drove the truck around until the temp got to about 160, took it through all the gears and verified I was level. Did not take a picture this time but the level was in the middle of the "A" portion.
I guess operating temp really does matter when checking levels..

yes, this new trans fluids they use expand a lot as it gets warmer, that is the reason
Ford wants you to take in in and have checked, they plug it into the IDS and monitor
TFT (trans fluid temp) while checking it. And the fluid cools off very quickly so you
have to keep checking temp while adding. even slightly too much fluid and it will
blow out the vent when it gets a little hotter.

Thanks good to know, the first check with the temp at 80 degrees had me concerned. I just had them 3 weeks ago (Dealer) do a pan drop and fluid/Filter change and wanted to second guess their work...

"Old" thread, but still good information. I'm doing my drain, rinse, fill with new filter today and I brought the level up to the top of the "A" hash mark on the dipstick with the trans temp at 90 degrees F. Plan on taking it out for a spin this afternoon to dump the used oil and then I'll put it back up in the air (ramps under front and rear wheels) and then check it again.
I checked the level when the transmission was at ambient temperature (72F) before I started the job and was a bit surprised that the level was all the way up to the shoulder where the dipstick seats in the bore! The transmission was serviced in June of 2013 under warranty and the dealer replaced the housing due to the pump bore being oversized and causing a leak...so the last person to be in this thing was the dealers technician. Makes me wonder if it was overfilled all this time?

Help the dipstick fell in.
After taking off the pan cleaning accessible transmission, putting on new gasket and pan and filling with transmission fluid. I was doing volume check, and it was still a little low. Taking the nut off and using the dipstick I checked to make sure it wouldn't go down into the transmission because it is attached to the nut kind of. Will after doing this four or five times a damn thing fell into the transmission when I was putting the nut back on. Do I have to take the pan off again? Seriously is there any other way? I stuck my pinky down there and I can't feel the plastic dip stick. I don't want to drive it in fear of that plastic dipstick getting stuck it in the transmission. What do I do? Besides take the pan off?

The factory dipstick? It shouldn't fall down inside, it stops right there because it has a big head. Unless the top of the dipstick is broken off. I always remove the metal nut because it just gets in the way for checking the level. If it's truly down in the pan, I would think you need to remove the pan again. And then you probably need a new one. The forum image link doesn't seem to be working right now:
