Transfer case trouble - F-150 Nightmare saga continues
#11
I came from a 2006 dodge Dakota what a nightmare. Replaced brakes, pads and right rear axle for constant brake shudder. Had the transmission replaced 3 times in 2 months because of crappy dealer. Traded it in at local Ford dealer for a 2010 xlt 4x4 which was problem free and traded that in on my current 2013 fx4 ecoboost which has been problem free so far

My last GM was a disaster even though the 2014 Sierra is tempting (but too expensive at 56,000 all in for a similarly equipped truck to the FX4 which is around $41k) and I didn't like the Ram's seats or the way it looks. Toyota wants $48,000 for a Tundra SR5 so that's out too. Only thing I can try with Ford is a different engine. One last chance to redeem themselves before I swear them off completely. I really love the F-150 as a product. I like the way it looks, drives and I like this community. It's just a damn shame that I got a bad one, is all.
If the next one is a lemon too I'll be going back to GM.
My buddy thinks the t-case problem is an encoder motor, Whatever the hell that is.

I still don't know how you can buy another Ford. I'd be running to anything else.

Why try a different engine when what, 21 of 23, of the trips to the dealer were not engine related? Seems like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Don't get me wrong, if I was buying today I'd probably end up in a 5.0 because the discounts are much better now than when I bought.

I have tried most brands and many without major complaints.
Currently have 2 Fords. If Ford had not come out with the redesigned Taurus (and SHO) in 2010, I would have purchased some other brand of car. The SHO is the finest car I have ever owned. My F150 is an old '04 XLT that is still like new. I like it almost as much as the SHO.
However, I read about the many quality issues with the current F150's. Hope Ford gets their quality issues back into control.

While it is hard to determine whether my original post is more sarcastic or rhetorical, the underpinning principle is the same. Why start another thread.

That's strange. Never heard that issue before. Mine shifts nearly immediately, and fairly quietly. You can hear it engage, but it certainly doesn't bang.
Maybe Ford dropped your truck off the assembly line or something. Could be user error too.
In rereading your initial post you're stopping when shifting into 4 hi. You should be rolling when shifting into 4 hi. That's how the system works in Ford trucks, and the same in my Fudge I came from.
You only need to stop if shifting into 4 lo.
Are you trying to go straight into 4 lo from 2 hi? Is that why you're stopping? This will cause problems as well. You should shift into 4 hi, then into 4 lo.
Just trying to figure out what exactly you're doing, and what might be causing the problem.

Hardcore- sorry to hear about all the troubles you've had, prob just got a lemon. Props to you for brand loyalty though. I think you'll be happy with a new truck. I've had zero issues out of my '12 platinum, I also know a few guys that have 150's, some with 5.0, some Eco, and some 6.2. None have ever had any trouble whatsoever. Trade her in, and start over bro. You'll be happy I think

Even when I try to shift into 4HI while rolling it takes a good 20-30 seconds with that same grinding noise.

Earlier yesterday as I was listing the truck I was pondering on whether or not I wanted to get rid of it because it's a nice truck, and it might not have any more problems.
Now I've never been more sure about something.
Oh believe me, it is. My life is a lemon! Lol.
