I think the EB is more sensitive to the cold stiff tranny fluid, since it would use boost much more often until the tranny is up to temp. I've read where some guys add a shield over the grill in cooler months to reduce the efficiency of the radiator, to increase their MPGs.
Overall, it makes a difference, but probably only a mile or 2 on average.

What's the difference in rad/cooling between the regular tow package and max? I have the regular tow package and the truck comes with a larger radiator/max cooling and auxiliary transmission cooler. Just curious.

This is for 2013 but I think the info is still the same.

Note there are only 2 radiators for the whole lineup and only one fan.
I think the auxiliary automatic transmission cooler package includes an external 4 pass cooler. I'm pretty sure all the trucks have an in the radiator cooler.

On mine with tow but not max tow, if the temperature is moderate (70ºF) it will take 20 miles or minutes to warm up to 195ºF. If the environment is 100+ and / or heavy towing, big hills and altitude the transmission temperature may get to 200º but apparently that's where a thermostat kicks in because it just never gets above that. As long as the environment is above freezing the transmission temperature will stabilize at 195º. When the outside air gets down to 0º the transmission temperature probably won't get above 145º.
The transmission temperature really does affect gas mileage on mine. On mine the difference between 150º and 195º is about 5 mpg. If most of my driving was 10 mile trips with complete cool down between, I would expect around 15 mpg average. But that's just my experience with a couple of EBs.

My 2011 EB FX4 MaxTow in the Toronto area is very temperamental about the transmission temperature. When it's cold out a 60 km commute will barely get it up to ideal temp, if at all. Fuel economy definately takes a hit and driveability is poo for the first few km, especially if it's really cold and the trans fluid is like syrup.

98.6 degrees.
If you are referring to your transmission then I would expect 130-150 after 10 miles and 190 after 60 miles. I have the non-hd package.
For better mpg there's plenty of good advice if you use the search function. I know I've covered it before so include my user name when searching. The best mod is the driver mod.

what would my tranny temp be after roughly 10 miles at 70 mph on my truck (empty). I have been watching it to try to see why my mpgs are bad and I may have found something. it takes about 50-60 miles for my tranny temp to reach 170-175 degrees. thought it would run a little warmer than that and maybe reach that temp sooner than that.
does the max tow maybe have something to do with that?

The reason your mpgs are bad is because it's a max tow. I went from a 3.31 EB to the max tow EB and lost 2 mpgs.
I'm currently getting 14.8 mpg, what are you getting.?
