Default "Trailer Wiring Fault" message

I did a search on a couple forums and came up with nothing on this so here is the question:

2009 Lariat - message centre diagnostics showing "trailer wiring fault". This just started a week ago but doesn't come up every time I drive. I have not had a trailer hooked up to it. Washed the truck last week so it may be a moisture issue.

Anyone else have this or heard of it?

check the plug receptacles, flip the covers open, look for ice.

Default TSB 09-5-6 Trailer Wiring Fault

Ford has issued (Technical Service Bulletin) TSB 09-5-6 on trucks built before 12-1-2008 that exhibit that same message. The dealer should be able to replace the trailer wiring harness to fix this issue under warranty. I have had this same issue on my 11-08 built F-150 when the truck is driven in the rain/snow. I plan on having the dealer perform this fix at the next oil change.

Don't think I've ever seen a first post that was so informative or helpful. Thanks.

I use All Data (www.alldatadiy.com) but you do have to pay for it. All Data does include a lot of information when you purchase it.

The dealer ended up changing out my trailer receptacle. Figured it was just a moisture issue but easiest fix is to replace.

Time will tell if it happens again.
