Trailer lights not working on my 2013 F150 FX4

Hey everyone, I've had my F150 for about 5 months now and have not towed anything yet. Going to be towing my brothers boat and going on a week long fishing/drinking/cabin fishing trip starting Monday.

I just assumed everything was in working order as far as trailer lights but when we checked it today, nothing worked. Everything works with his Dodge hooked up so i'm assuming it's my truck with the problem.

I bought it used so there are no fuses in the glove now, box but all the necessary fuses and relays look like they are there. Looks like there is only one fuse (number 15) and the rest are relays. If anyone knows if that's wrong, let me know.

The first thing they say is check the ground. Looks like all wires are wrapped and I have no idea if the ground goes back into the wiring harness, or if it's grounded on the chassis.

I cant get any kind of reading from my voltmeter when testing the pins on the plugs.

Hoping someone has went through the same scenario and might have some tips.

All help is greatly appreciated.Thx.

You need both of these.
In the fuse compartment under the hood, the relay goes in 9 while the fuse goes in position 21. This provides power to the orange or red pin of the 7 pin connector

Is the trailer you are hooking up a 7 pin or 4 pin?

The fuse/relay isn't your problem as that is used to charge/power an onboard trailer battery and has nothing to do with the lights.

If you have zero lights I would suspect a ground issue, but you tested at the pin and had no readings so possible that either you didn't test properly or the wire is cut somewhere or the fuses are all shot. The f150 uses multiple fuses under the hood for the trailer lights, I'd start there. If they are good I'd check at the connection under the spare tire, if that checks good check the wires going into the trailer connection (truck side)

I had the same problem when i bought my truck and it was new. Fuse 73 in the power distribution box was blown. Replaced it and all has been well since. Not sure what year truck yours is but i would check any and all fuses associated with the trailer lights. Check your manual for the list and locations

Hi to all. i am a new user to this forum and had the same issue with my trailer lights. I bought my 2014 f150 used that had one previous owner. there was no fuses or relays in the glove box when i bought it from a certified pre-owned dealer.
I bought one of those 4 pin testers at Oriely's auto parts and plugged it in and got no power to anything. i checked all fuses and relays today and it seams that my number 73 fuse ( power to trailer brake lights and turn signal relays) was bad. i replaced the fuse and now have lights indicating on my plug in tester.
I hope this info helps someone.
I also went ahead and bought the relay for #9 and the fuse for #21 slots so they are there if i ever need to use my 7 pin connector. I do have a 7 to 6 pin adapter for one of my other 6 pin connector trailers.

I had a similar recent problem - no lights at all on my trailer upon hookup. The problem was the trailer grounds -- not my truck. 2013 Crew XLT.
