7 pin connector or 4 pin? If 4 pin it won't automatically be recognized but the lights should still work, only 7 pin gets auto recognized. Check power at the plug and check fuses for trailer.

The first place I would look for a trailer light problem is a bad/broken ground on the trailer frame or at the plug. It would also keep the truck from recognizing your trailer.

Had that issue on my 2009 a couple months ago while towing a trailer home. First time I had towed with the truck, not sure how long it had been for the previous owner but I think the contacts just needed cleaned. Took some electronic contact cleaner and sprayed both the truck and trailer plug then plugged and unplugged it about a dozen times. After that it worked fine for 1,600 miles.
