Default Trailer controller problems

I have added an OEM style trailer brake controller to my 2011 F150 FX4 and have been having some issues with it. I have confirmed that both fuses are correct and the controller was enable with Forscan. I am having a couple different issues that may or may not be related. I have also replaced the trailer connector adapter.

With a trailer connected to the 7 pin plug the display shows no trailer connected. I do have lights. While driving if I squeeze the controller brake lever it engages the brakes. However it doesn't show any output on the display.
When I am coming to a complete stop and hit around 5mph the trailer brakes lock up briefly even with the gain turned down to 0.5. I can't tell if it engages the brakes prior to locking up.

Both issues have been confirmed on two different trailers.

Did you add the OEM controller from Ford or an aftermarket unit? Many people have issues with aftermarket controllers. They don't seem to communicate with the truck computers very well. Many have had to change back to a Ford original controller. Good luck.

Well I will admit I was being cheap and purchased an aftermarket controller. I wanted the OE look but didn't want to pay the $200 for it. I was hoping this wasn't the problem but maybe it is.
