trailer brake controller reflash

trailer brake controller reflash
So, I recently installed a factory trailer brake controller (real easy for those that want to do it). However, the dealer wants $50 dollars to initialize it in the PCM. Is there anyway to do this without going to the dealer? There are two dealers in my area both want $50.

I think your not going to have a choice. You are probably going to have to have them do the re-flash. I may be wrong, but I don't think there is another way.

So the truck already had the tow package from the factory but didn't have the TBC correct?
It's my understanding that the only trucks that can get the factory TBC added are those that had the package. I'm just trying to verify that.
Thanks.

Yes, I have the factory tow package. It even says in the instructions to make sure you have it. The easy cues are the dual trailer hookup (7 and 4pin at rear) and the receiver. I got the TBC from tasca and install took all of 35 minutes. Now just trying to figure out the initialzing situation. It just seems bogus to pay 50 bucks for 5 min of work! I am also a little irritated because I will have to do it again in the late fall once I get my remote start.

Actually, you can use the factory module even if you don't have the factory trailer hitch, you'll just have to grab some wire loom, and run the blue wire from the module all the way back to the plug, because they omit the blue wire from the harness without the factory tow package.
I have a 5' x 10' dump trailer, and I ewanted power back there 24/7, so I ran a blue wire, and an orange wire through the loom, and it works great.

I haven't got mine programmed yet, but I would be fine with $50. I don't want to pay more than that though, and still have hope that my dealer will do it for free.

i got mine flashed for free just because i bought it there. with the $50 extra bucks bet it would of been just as cheep getting it from your ford dealer, if they would have done the same and flashed it for free.
you might get your remote start and get both flashed at the same time for $50. sounds like the shop rates are $100 an hour and you will be eating up 30ish minutes of tech time. well good luck
