Default Trailer Brake Controller-2010 Models

There's a long thread on this topic for the 2009 models, but not much on the 2010 F150's. Any 2010 owners had problems getting a dealer-installed trailer brake controller to work? Dealer tried to install mine yesterday, but the computer gave him a "system unsupported" message. I have an XLT with trailer tow package (7pin and 4 pin). Anyone experienced this? If so, what's the fix?

I have this nice truck, but can't even move my trailer because of no brakes.

Dealer installed the Tow mirrors yesterday as well, they are sweeeet! A little "big", but still very nice.

i was under the impression that if the truck shipped with the tow pkg, it was a simple upgrade. but if it's a dealer installed pkg, then they have to reflash the computer to make it accept the controller...

also, there is a controller specific to 2010. you can't use an 09 or earlier controller.

If this is the case, that may be where the problem lies. The part #
for the controller they attempted appears to be the same used for a 2009. Hmmmm.

The 2009 has the readout display (gain, etc) built into the controller itself. The 2010 has only the brake controls, the readouts are in the info center in the center dash console.

Thanks! Forwarded part # to my dealer; I'm hoping they have something cooking to fix my problem.

I need to give an update on my trailer brake controller issue. First, thanks to the responses from this site, I was able to give valuable info to my dealer who, in turn, resolved my issue. I now have functioning trailer brakes and some fantastic towing mirrors. Kudos to those who responded here, as well as Tony, Dean, and Ashley at Green Ford in Greensboro NC.

An unexpected surprise - when I picked up the truck, it had been washed, vaccumed, and filled with gas. Two thumbs up!!!

I would stick with that dealer. I have heard of a complimentary wash and vac when a vehicle is in for service......but a tank of gas......thats going the extra mile.

I installed the Integrated Brake Controller in my Screw on Saturday, and brought it to the dealer last night for an oil change (only put 1900 miles on it since October, but figured it couldn't hurt) and asked the dealer to reflash the computer. I even printed out the parameters from the other brake controller thread and brought them with me, in case the dealer needed assistance.

The Service Manager told me that they only need to reflash the PCM is there is an error message relating to the IBC, which my truck didn't have. They even tested the 7-pin plug with a test plug, and it showed all is well.
