Default Trading Tires?

I currently have 275/70/18 BFG all terrains on my truck. They are E rated and are heavy, which means a major decrease in mpg (went from averaging 18 down to 13-14 on a good day). And while I'm not usually that guy who cares about mpg too much, times are getting hard and I'm sure the gas prices are hurting a lot of ur guys' pockets as well. I've been thinking about trading them in for a lighter tire. I've even thought of selling my wheels and going back to my 17" stockers. My question is: What is a fair price I should get for my tires if I trade them in on some new ones? If I go back to my stockers, ill most likely go with a 295/70/17, I think they're about the same size as I have now.

A 295x70x17 (33.5x11.8) is larger and maybe heavier then what you have now. You would have to go with a P rated 265x70x17 on the stocker's to regain mileage. But who want's to give up the look's of larger tires! I still manage to get 16 to 18 mpg with my heavy 305's.

haha ya it is hard to give up the looks of bigger tires. I also like the look of 18's over 17's. When I first put them on, I expects the 1-2 mpg loss like everybody else states, but it was a real downer when I saw the 4-5 mpg loss lol. From what I've gathered on here, it's due to the BFG's having an E load rating. Thinking of trading them in for the ew BFG Rugged Terrains or Cooper Discoverers

A 275/60/20 (33") is a popular light weight P rated tire if you're interested in upgrading to 20" wheels.

Nah although 20's look nice, I prefer having more sidewall

if you have bigger tires. have you re programed the truck for the bigger tires. mabey it's not getting as bad mileage as you think. mabey the computer is screwed up giving you wrong calculations.

I thought that they can only reprogram it to factory size tires?

the raptor has 35 inch tires. so i think they can go that high. if not a programmer can do it. But it might not be off that much. If you can get a dash mounted gps sometime check the speed on that with the speed your truck is travelling.

Ya, they can set it for 35", but my tires are 33". If they programed it for the Raptor, it would be 2" off, which is basically what it is now. Either way, it would still be off. It's not a huge deal, I think I'll just wait for these tires to wear out then buy some lighter ones the next time around...that's if I don't buy a 2015 first
