my dad's a business owner and he used to lease his trucks for 36 months. good for high mileage, and you can write off your taxes. Unfortunately, GM ousted their lease program when he got his Escalade, so he bought it in cash and got an extended warranty, and it's the only GM that's keeping us from going all Ford/Audi

Also good for guys that get restless driving the same vehicle for over a year. Just don't do it unless it's for a business.

I drive over 50K miles a year on business. I get paid per mile so the math works out to get a new vehicle every 18 months. I get a great trade each time and the fantastic milage on my '11 EB FX4 Screw has put an additional $2000 in my pocket on gas savings at these high prices. I'm already thinking about my next EB with a 36 gallon gas tank. I have been able to get almost 600 miles on the 26 gallon tank a couple of times so imaging being able to drive 800 miles between fill-ups!

There is value in being under warranty for the majority of the time you have a vehicle.

You may be as blunt as you wish. However, there's no excuse to call anyone an "idiot", or any other name simply because you don't subscribe to his way of thinking.

You can disagree without being disagreeable.

As 99% of the posters on this thread have made clear, it's no one's business how someone else chooses to spends his/her money.

I traded in a 2010 XLT with 16,000 miles on it for a 2012 Lariat. Why? Because I wanted to. And I could afford it.

Doesn't make me an idiot. It makes me happy. At 59 years of age, I damn well deserve what little joy I may have left on this earth.

Love the jealousy hate in this thread. Congrats on the impending new truck. I traded a '09 for a '11. Payment went down and I got a ton of extra options. If I loved the truck before ... I *really* love it now.

Yup, once again, I'm with the "go for it if you enjoy it" posters in this thread.

To anyone who nay-says what the OP did, take a fine-toothed comb through your own life and find anywhere that you spend your money on something that isn't absolutely necessary.

Things to look for include: not programming your thermostat, or keeping any higher than is necessary to prevent hypothermia (or in the summer, any colder than to prevent heat stroke). Also look at your cable bill (cable is a WANT, not a NEED). Then, do you smoke cigarettes or cigars? Those are WANTS as well. Do you take vacations? Buy or rent or even go to the movies? How's about that fancy computer you've got? Riding lawnmower?

My point is that we all have our hobbies - things we really enjoy, which cost money. What one person enjoys may not float the boat of his neighbor. I've had something like 15 vehicles in the last 12 years, because I like driving new vehicles. Now that my priorities have changed (I'm a homeowner and husband now), I'd like to keep my truck 5-10 years.

Hurray for the OP - I'm happy for him!

[steps down off soapbox]

-John
